I dyed my hair black but I hated it. Then in the doctors office I read that women over 40 looked better with lighter hair so I found something to remove the color from your hair. I tried it and it turned my hair orange but it said you can color it again right away. I tried to make it a med reddish brown but it didn't work too well. Now I've got a darker orange color to my hair. I went out and bought some more hair dye but I won't try it again for a few weeks. I've got a couple of wigs I'll have to wear when I go out for a few weeks.

Clover Berry, look on the side of the box, usually there is a 1-800 number to call in case of hair color emergency.

I have done some strange things to my hair myself - seems like a silly waste of money to go to the beauty shop when I could do it myself at home. Once when I was much younger, I let my older sister and her room mate frost my hair. They didn't take into consideration that I had fine, thin hair, so big chunks were pulled thru that little bonnett. I looked like a skunk!!!! Ran to the drug store and bought some brown hair dye and it turned a lovely shade of moss green.

When I wore my hair really short I was quite free about changing the color often, it didn't matter because I wasn't going to get frizzy split ends and I would just go and get some more cut off. Now, I wear my hair a little longer and am more careful. One of the things I do to keep it looking a little more natural is when I do the roots, I put heavy conditioner on the longer parts so they won't absord as much color, seems to work for me.

Good luck and let us know what color you become, right now I am Champagne Blonde, the underside looks a little red, but I like it.

Too late about the phone number on the box. I already threw it out. I tried to wear a wig to church but it kept itching me I wanted to take it off and scratch my head but there was too many people there. I guess my hair isn't that bad. It's just the lights in our bathroom shine down directly on the top of my head and really shows the red but outside it wasn't all that noticably. I'm going to try the website for the hair color remover to see if I can ask them about it.

When you "strip" the color from your hair using a bleaching product, a normal application of hair dye won't replace it. I did the same thing myself a few years ago...went blonde, hated it and re-dyed my hair several times trying to get back something resembling my normal hair color. On one trip to the drug store for more dye, the L'oreal rep was there and I was able to explain my problem and get advice.

Here's what you do:
Get two boxes of the color you want. With the first box, take the *color only* (not the white stuff you mix it with, just the color...usually in a little brown bottle) and soak a cotton ball with the color and apply it to your hair. Now take the second box and mix the color and developer as usual, and apply as usual. Leave it on the normal amount of time...and voila...it should end up the color you're going for. It worked for me anyway. Good luck!

It worked, my hairs a med brown with a hint of red in it just the way I like it. When I was waiting for the dye job my mind was thinking about what if my hair falls out from the dyeing so much but so far so good. I wonder if this will keep me from dyeing it again.

Cloverberry, most likely no, it is like an addiction, always wondering how we would look with just a little more blonde, or red or streaks.

I have been coloring my hair in some form or fashion since I put peroxide on it when I was in the 7th grade. My mother wouldn't let me bleach my hair (which was so popular here in the late 60's) so I got the hydrogen peroxide and put it just on the front of my hair everyday and went out in the sun. It turned Lucille Ball orange. She did let me go buy some sandy brown dye in hopes of getting me normal looking by the time school started. I told y'all about the frost job given by my sister when I was a sr. in high school.

The first color job I had was in the summer of 68, the last one I had was 9-13-03 and have had a million different color jobs in between.

I have no idea what color my hair really is, when I was little it was blonde, when I was a teenager it was blondish, reddish brown. Now thanks to modern science it is still blondish, reddish.

Here is to better living through hair dye.

Cloverberry, never try to color your hair on your own especially when using permanent color. I'm a hairstylist so I've seen people come in with some hard to fix mistakes. However, if you insist on not having a professional do it for you try using an ash color. The green base of ash will counteract the reddish orange you've got going on there. Be very careful because with as much color as you've put on your hair the color could grab very dark especially on the ends. You probably should apply the color to the ends at the very last few minutes. Remember that once you have applied color to your hair you cannot lighten it with another color even if you are using a very light blonde. It will just deposit more color and go darker. You might also stay away from permanent color and go with something that is semipermanent if you are gong to do it yourself. Then it will not lift your own natural color. Just because a product tells you that you can color your hair right away it does not mean that you will necessarily get good results. You have to go with the overall condition of the hair. After you get your hair colored to a natural looking shade I would have a good trim. Also, the color you put on may fade rather quickly because you've damaged the hair cuticle opening it up so that the color may not hold. Good luck and happy hair coloring.

thanks for the help Cutup but I already did what Hoot advised and it worked fine. I only color my hair to get the gray out. I'll go for a haircut and a perm in about a month.
