I'm getting more concerned about the amount of hair I'm losing! I don't notice it growing back in at all, just getting thinner and thinner. I'm on testosterone cream daily (since last Nov.) because my levels were found to be so low. The fallout did slow down somewhat and some days are "better" than others, but will this ever stop? Anyone with this problem able to offer me any hope? How am I going to deal with the humiliation of "baldness"??? I do take vitamins regularly and have had my thyroid checked (so that's not it). Where do I go for help with this? For those of you who have been through menapause and suffered hairloss, when did you notice an improvement or didn't you?
What to do, what to do.....

Hmmmmmm, the cause may be heredatary(sp). I don't have that problem. Are you taking any type of medications that hair loss may be one of the side effects?

I guess you may need to go wig, weave and/or extension shopping and/or see a consultant.

My hair used to fall out by the hand fulls, so bad that my husband would get so aggravated because I was always clogging up the drains. That all came to an end when I started using a natural progesterone cream.
Also 400 IU's of natural Vit. E twice a day and a good B-Complex once a day will help too.

as i lunderstand it..a drop in estrogen production causes the hair follicles to shrink and the hair falls out..mine started a year ago(about one year into menopause)with me it is hereditary..my mother had thick hair most of her life..but as she aged it thinned terribley..i feel like i have lost 1/2 my hair already..fortunately it was very thick to start out..i called the makers of rogaine...they have not done any clinical trials on post menopausal women ..only women between 18-45..so they dont know if its effective or not...i thought about trying it..but they told me that in the first couple of months of use it can cause additional hair loss before you notice the loss stopping..so i am afraid that if it try it and it doesnt work i will be in worse shape than i already am

Thanks for your input. Rhonda, I needed those hugs right now and girls, I feel your pain! Hairloss is pretty frightening for women. I'm curious about your progesterone cream use Rhonda. Did you start this on your own or did someone suggest it's use for you? How much do you use? Using the testosterone cream (compounded in a pharmacy) seemed to help me at first, but now I find I'm still struggling with this. I'm bothered by the fact that it's so hard to find any REAL help with this by professionals. GEEZ, someone must have knowledge about female hairloss and be willing to help us. But, where are they? I am so interested in hearing other women's input because you never know what info may help you. I can't wait much longer....I don't have that much more that I can afford to lose. I pray about it everyday...I research hairloss on the web also, but don't find much that is helpful or easy to understand. How do you ladies wear your hair as it is thinning so that it looks best? I'm so vain.......as an afterthought, I wonder if I should use progesterone cream along with the testosterone cream I'm on. Or, will I "overload" and cause more hair to fall out??? Kathy

for kat734..you say you are frustrated by the fact that professionals are offering any solutioins..i have been 2 3 different drs regarding post menopausal hairloss..the only suggestion was try rogaine(see myrpevious post) ..i think that if there was a fix for the problem at least one and probably all of the drs i saw would know what that fix is..which sort of tells me there is no way to stop this type of hair loss..from all i have read i am fairly certain that no topical applications can be of any help...the only thing i would guess that would help is going on hrt..and im not willing to risk breast cancer..

John Lee says to rotate the areas where we put the cream. For this , you need a memory ! lol
Face, then chest, abdomen (I have 3 of those), back
of knees, wrists, then back to face again.
Maybe I need to take notes. I didn't know that, being a menopausal blimp, I'm supposed to use 1/2 teaspoon.
Maybe that's what I can't notice anything; been using
1/4 teaspoon 2x daily.

Susan,
He also recommends a lot of women (depending on their weight) to use the cream for 3 months straight before taking the 7 day break. If you are really estrogen dominant, I would try that as well as increase your dosage to 1/2 tsp. 2 x a day and see if you get any results. If you still don't see any changes, you may need to do a good colon cleanse, because estrogen is also stored in the bowels, especially if a woman has colon problems. Not sure if you have that problem or not. I have IBS and I started out with the colon cleanse first thing when I started the cream and got great results. Fatty tissue and the colon are two hot spots for estrogen storage.

I started experiencing hairloss when I was using testosterone ointment daily for a condition called Lichen Sclerosis. Now I'm 53 and am going to have to start wearing a wig pretty soon. My hair is so thin and I have lots of bald spots. It's humiliating. People are always staring at me and I have 0 self esteem.

my hair has not fallen out (thank God) but it has become VERY VERY fine. it's so fine that i can not do anything to it. it is just straight. i use a special shampoo and conditioner which have been a Godsend. i also use an anti-frizz serum which makes it look less fly-away.

as for using hormones, i'm on the bcp but it doesn't eliminate all of the menopausal signs and symptoms.
