I am new to this board. I am 45 years old and in the past number of months I have really noticed a lot of hair on my chin. I am very conscious of this and feel that other people notice it also (which possibly they don't) I have lost all my confidence because of this. Is there anyone out there that has this problem as well and have you any ideas. Do you think it is a menopause thing. I would be grateful for any replies. What would be the best way to treat it.

I shave my chin. My husband and boys are nagging me to shave my lip also but I don't think that it is that bad. My chin has always been hairy but when I hit metapause it got much worse. I see nothing wrong with shaving it. No one knows but my family. You can't tell. It looks much better and is an easy solution to the problem.

I've always had upper lip hair that I shave every week. I think it's hereditary. My mother and my grandmother always had it.

Wax it! You can get it done for you at a salon or do it yourself at home. There are precut facial hair strips that are easy to use. The first time it stings, but after that your hair grows in much sparser each time.

Taint no fun...is it...(throws vanity right out the window)...
When I was a young woman, I was fair & blonde with blonde & very fine (downy) facial hair on my face - not noticeable unless I was really tanned.
When I was in my 30's I was fair & dirty blonde with darkening facial hair on & under my chin & upper lip & sides of lower cheeks...sparse, but there.
Now 41 & my hairs are pretty thick/stiff (if I ever let them appear)...
Spent $$$ on electrolysis...didn't work.
Considered laser...but it isn't permanently permanent (just suppose to get rid of it for longer period but very $$$$) - plus, how damaging is a laser on the skin longterm???
Tried face creams (peeuuuuh)...stink & I don't like absorbing chemicals into my body as I think it may be unhealthy.
Plucking...toooooo time consuming & ouch...
Never waxed.
Shaving is best (imo)! (it is a well kept secret with women in their 40's...you'd be surprised how many women do this).
I shave that stuff off once every 3-4 days...no problem & cheap...just a bit#! that it's another thing we peri & menopausal women have to deal with. Arrrggghhh...but remember ~ you are a human being trapped inside a female body :)
Good to you & "keep your chin up"

Ladies, whatever you do don't shave. Go to your beauty salon. They will wax the areas and it leaves the skin much smoother and softer and doesn't grow back as quickly as shaving. It's not that expensive. I am a stylist and our salon charges $15.00 for the upperlip, chin and eyebrow area. I have also done the facial area in front of the ear. Sometimes that area will also get an overgrowth of hair. If you have just shaved the area you will have to let it grow out a bit so that the wax can adhere to it.

I totally agree with cutup. My GF shaved and now she has tougher skin and the hair keeps getting coarser. She now took my advice and waxes, see my post above. It is thinner again, although her skin on her upper lip still is coarser, we believe because of the constant shaving.

Uh, my hair has always been coarse on my upper lip. I used to shave it but that didn't work after 20yrs so now I wax at home sometimes every other day. Oh and I also pluck. Now my chin has started.
UGH....
Oh and hi! I am 38 and I think I am perimenopausal. My periods won't leave me alone....grrrr....grrr...
