Anyone out there on the progesterone replacement Prometrium?
Went to gyn yeaterday and she wants me to try it for 2-3 months. Dr. likes the results she has seen in other peri. women and the fact that its micro something formulation. She's receptive to holistic medicine but has a problem with the unpredictability of OTC progesternone creams. Either to little progesterone or not effective delivery methods (ie. petroleum based creams or glyserin (sp) problems.) Altho if that is the way I want to go she is willing to give it a shot. Lo and behold she is firmly AGAINST SURGERY!!!! In her words "that solution will only create more problems and symptoms than it will solve, and you lose all the protections that female hormones provide your body in other ways" I was pretty happy.
I did give her the Dr. Lee book about what dr's may not want you to know about menopause and she is very happy to read it. All in all I feel better. She will work with me on whatever means of trying to deal with the peri. symptoms I want. Had a stress induced hot flash when we were talking (LOL :)) So she is very aware that I am not having fun with this. Hope my visit with my male general physician goes as well.

Anyone with info on Promethium please post it so I can decide if I want to try or not.

Thanks for any help--R

P.S. HormoneQueen: I know, I know, use the natural stuff. :) We'll see.

I just started prometrium about one week ago, but I'm taking it along with estratest. I am taking it for peri-menopausal symptoms (i'm 38). Are you taking an estrogen supplement also? Just wondering. Can't help you as of yet in answering your question.

Thanks for info. No I'm not taking any estrogen. Dr. agrees with estrogen excess/progesterone deficiency. So I will not be taking anything with estrogen in it. Hope things go well for you.

Best to ya :D - R

I have been on Prometrium since August. I was put on it for irregular and heavy bleeding (I am 46 and peri-menopausal). Since I have been on it, i have had one fairly heavy period and one that was very light. The periods were two weeks apart. My understanding of Prometrium is that it should make your periods light and regular-not so with me-yet! I talked to my dr. and he said to give it at least 3 cycles of taking the drug-I take it for 10 days a month. The prometrium does make me sleepy so I take it at night. Other than that I have no other side-effects. I go to see my dr. in early Nov. and we will see what other suggestions he has-I don't think the Prometrium is doing what it is supposed to be doing.
