I am getting them during the day, which I am trying to deal with, but the lack of sleep at night is wearing me out.

I started taking an antidepresant, Trazadone, to help me sleep.

Hi. I went off HRT therapy for surgical menopause. I find the OTC remedies for estrogen replacement help, and I drink at least one glass of flavored soy milk a day. It is a natural plant hormone and seems to really help. Good luck. Ain't it great -- the saving we get on our heating bills. We are so environmentally conscientious.

Is this something that is going to be a long term necessity?

Snowing,

Unfortunately, there is no way to tell how long they will last. I hear that perimenopause can last up to 10 years,(scary thought uh?) but your symptoms will come and go.

Doctors say that most of the symptoms will go, but the thinner mucous membrane skin (that's at important area) will always be thinner and easily irritated and we continue to get bone loss if we don't get enough calcium and exercise.

I stopped eating ALL processed foods and my flashes stopped almost over night. That means nothing bagged, boxed.... You eat Atkins or Suzanne Sommers-style. Oh, and I lost 24 lbs in 2 months.

It's been over 12 years and I'm still menapsl. Are we paying for Eve's sin here?
My electric bill, when flashes were full blown, was sky high since I would run to the freezer door and stick my head in as far as I could fit! Ohhh, that felt sooo good~

I'm 37 and i have a fibroid tumor. My doctor put me on Lupron to shrink the tumor, i go in tomorrow morning for my 2nd shot. All i can think of is only 1 more month of these side effects. If i make it that long and my poor family im driving them crazy. I have been doing alot of reading about hysterectomy and other procedures and its to the point where im scared, i just want this over and done with. I want to feel good again but im scared how im going to feel in the future. Its a hard decision to make knowing what to do it effects the rest of my life. I feel better now that i have told someone how i feel that actually understands .

Hi,

I find that using a natural progesterone cream like "Fem Gest" works wonders on hot flashes. You can buy it at health food stores or online.

As to the person that was talking about fibroid tumors, I had those about three years ago. My doctor talked me into having a partial hysterectomy and I regret it to this day. It is what has put me into early menopause. In a book by Dr. John Lee he suggests natural progesterone cream as one thing that can help with fibroids. It would be worth looking into before having a hysterectomy in my opinion. Check the book out and see what he has to say about fibroid tumors. Hope this helps!

Yes, I used natural progestorone prescribed by my doctor for fibroids. They went away and I did not need a hysterectomy.

I have been using Black Cohosh for my hot flashes for over 2 weeks. Its a little capsule and you can find them in the vitamin section. It's an old Native American Indian and colonist remedy for them for centuries. It is working so far, but you can't take it if you have liver problems or are taking synthetic estrogen. I am taking Soy Isoflavones, I got off of Estratest a month ago and feel so much better. Also, I've lost at least 10 lbs.!
