My husband and I have been looking foward to building our family for 4 years now. We will start our very 1st IVF cycle in a few weeks! I've never blogged about ANYTHING before, but I felt this was an awesome time to start!
So far, we've completed bloodwork and the saline ultrasound. Let me tell you...that saline ultrasound was INTENSE! The Dr. took samples of my uterus... WHICH HURT LIKE HADES! It has been 6 days since then, & I still have sharp twinges of pain/cramps occasionally (I also started taking prenatal vitamins with iron - so I switched to vitamins without iron because that also could be the cause of my abdominal discomfort).
In 2 days, we go for a semen analysis and freeze; as well as have an education class about our meds. I'll be doing Follistim.

Had my day 2 labs drawn today! Turned in all required consents. Started Yaz oral contraceptives...will continue pills for 14 days. RN will contact me with my next step/meds.
I agree with the other posters who say that the process is a mystery. If you don't ask, they sure won't tell (unless absolutely necessary). I work in healthcare, so I'm very verbal about what I want, need, and expect. Nevertheless, it has already been an overwhelming process.
We will be doing IVF/ICSI. I recently told my work managers that we're starting this process to prepare them for my absence/light duty. They are very supportive...one of them has done a successful IUI herself! They even came up with excuses for me to tell my coworkers while I'm on light duty :)

On day 9 of BCPs. My breasts are sore. I finally stopped spotting, but I still experience mild cramping at times. I ordered my fertility medications yesterday. They will arrive this Saturday. Just 5 more days of pills...then we wait for AF.

Finally took my last BCP... just waiting on AF now. I got my big box of meds this past Saturday. This will be one of the ONLY TIMES I actually WANT to see AF!

AF came 2 days after stopping BCPs! I had my Day two ultrasound and Estradiol level drawn. This ultrasound was internal like the first one BUT NOWHERE close to being painful (Thank Goodness)! We started Ovidrel shots (10 units), Gonal-F shots (150 units), prescription prenantals, and ASA Wednesday Nov. 11th. Tomorrow I go for f/u labs. So far....no side effects. I'll keep ya posted!! Oh yeah..DH started Doxycycline BID...he says it makes him lightheaded for a few hours, but then he's fine.

Had my 1st labwork since taking meds. E2 level 194 (day 3)..they said the level is good... They kept my Ovidrel and Gonal F doses the same today, however I have to go back tomorrow for more bloodwork and another ultrasound??? They're making me think something is wrong because I shouldn't have to go back in the very NEXT DAY. I WILL be asking a ton of questions.
My shots are going OK...they're beginning to hurt now...I didn't feel them at all when I first started. And I'm not at all fond of that stupid Gonal-F multidose pen. That crappy thing increases the pressure needed to inject. Not what you want with a sharp object jabbed in your body! I'd much rather draw it up myself.

Sun.Nov.13--2nd set of labs drawn...NO ultrasound done (they left me an incorrect message - which disturbs me). My 1st E2 was 197. My E2 from today is 344! So that lets me know the meds are working! I go back tomorrow for labs and u/s.
DH and I traveled in and out of town all weekend with our cooler of meds with us! We even gave my shots in the middle of parking lots between shopping!
Our journey continues...getting closer to our goal!

Everything has gone beautifully so far. I've been stimulating quite well. Here are my serial E2 levels...197, 344, 767, 1064, 1456, 2268, 2900, 4186, and 7474! I took 6 days of Gonal-F 150 units SQ & Ovidrel 10 units SQ. Then I added Ganirelix Acetate 250 units for the next 4 nights. Then on the 11th night Gonal-F 75 units, Ovidreal 10 units, & ganirelix. Tonight (Sunday Nov. 22) I received the word that I'll be TRIGGERING tomorrow!! So tonight I took Ganirelix SQ and Estradiol 2mg PO. Then @ 2130 I'll take Lupron 20 units SQ and HCG 0.5 ml IM. Tomorrow 11/23/09, I take Lupron again, get labs drawn, and NPO after MN. TUES 11/24/09... 0830 RETRIEVAL!!!!
Right now, my ovaries are huge - esp. the Right side - every step, every cough is uncomfortable...but worth it!

Well, we did it! Retrieval went smoothly. We went to pre-op holding, I changed into gown, hair and shoe covers. I met my CNRA (who happens to work with me at the hospital) and signed more consents. DH gave me a kiss and off I went to the OR table. Now, I'm used to GYN stirrups....but these stirrups were the MOTHER of all stirrups!! I don't think my legs could have gone any higher :) The CRNA started a #20 in my Rt. AC and shortly after she said here comes the drugs. She pushed Diprivan and after about 30 seconds I felt tingly/light-headed. I tried to fight it (just to see if I could)..yeah - not so much! That stuff knocked me out! Now I know how my patients feel. Next thing I know, I was back in the pre-op holding area fully awake. WOW..I don't remember walking in there! DH joined me. They wanted me to urinate, but it was just way to soon. I got dressed by myself, DH pulled the car around, and the RN wheeled me out.
I got a Subway sandwich on the way home, got comfy on the couch, and relaxed. I finally urinated minimally about 4 hours later. Cramps are very much present and I am a little bit bloated. We did our 1st Progesterone shot 2nite. That sucker hurt. Maybe it was because I was laying down...I'll stand tomorrow. DH has been great! He has waited on me hand and foot.
Transfer will be either this Friday the 27th (BLACK FRIDAY!!!) for 3 day OR this Sunday the 29th for 5 day tansfer. This means I can travel home with family for Thanksgiving!! Yea!!
