Is it safe for men with varicoceles to do weight training & exercises like sit-ups, if the proper precautions are taken, like wearing breifs or athletic supporter and a weight belt?
And if a person has a varicocele repaired through surgery can he resume weight training? (And to what measure?)

Yes, its safe to lift weights with a varicocele, just as you said with the precautions you listed.
After varicocele surgery, it is recommended you don't lift weights for a month. I would wait 2 months, just to be safe. I had the surgery, and I lift weights now with no problems.

I also had a varicocelectomy 7 months ago. I only have one concern about my recovery. At certain times during the day the testical that the surgary was performed on seems to be sitting higher than the other. I am starting to wonder if this is part of the recovery process or a compication. Did you notice anything like this after your surgary and how long did it take for your testicals to look "normal"

No, I never had my affected testicle sit higher than the other one. After the surgery, they were both at the same height, if anything maybe a little lower than the right side. If you're not getting any pain, and it not substantially different, I wouldn't worry about it.
