Has anyone here tried Rogaine? My husband has thinning hair, mostly in the top back. We bought a 3 month supply of Rogaine and I was wondering if it worked for anyone here. Thanks.

Shel 10-05-2001, 09:40 AM Has anyone here tried Rogaine? My husband has thinning hair, mostly in the top back. We bought a 3 month supply of Rogaine and I was wondering if it worked for anyone here. Thanks. Sponsor orion 11-18-2001, 12:05 AM I think the virdict is that Rogaine doesn't work for most men, but it does for some. However, Propecia does work for about 60% of men. It is also possible that Saw Palmetto will also work since it has been shown to have the same properties as propecia. Shel 11-19-2001, 09:21 AM Orion, Thanks for the reply. Saw Palmetto? What's that? An Herbal Supplement? Our doctor said Propecia has sexual side effects and isn't worth it. Does Saw Palmetto have sexual side effects also??' Thanks, Shel Babernethy 11-21-2001, 10:40 AM I have not met anyone that Rogaine worked for...I tried the 5% version for 8 months...no difference. I am now on Propecia. If you punch it up on the internet you will find that the side effects are minimal and only affect about 2.5% of men who take it. The info also says it is more likely to affect men who have had sexual problems in the past. If your hubby is healthy, like I am, he should experience no more side effects than I have (none!) It is costing me about $50.00 per month...I have 3 months supply and then I will see the doctor for Liver function. This is standard practice. If everything is OK, I'll be issued a prescription for a year. Propecia is supposed to start working after the 6 month point. We'll have to see as the JURY is still out. B orion 11-21-2001, 11:59 PM Your doctor is just being cautious so you won't sue him. There can be side effects, but if they show up, you can just stop taking the medications. Ask you doctor what is wrong with doing that? Saw Palmetto, is the herbal equivalent of Propecia. The verdict is still out on how well either of these really work in the long run. It's worth a try though. Babernethy 12-03-2001, 02:50 PM I don't think my doctor is worried that I will sue him...he is a very GOOD doctor and is only worried about my health. He explained very clearly to me that there 'could be' other side effects and that is why he wants me to go for a liver function check. I aksed him for the prescription...he never attempted to push me into buying propecia. He asked me to try Rogaine first as he did say they would be fewer 'possible' side effects topically rather than internally. I have grown a beard while on propecia...I started less than 4 weeks ago and it is full now. I must add that I grew a beard 10 years ago and it tokk 2 months to fill in. This may be a conincidence...we'll see! B Mepoopsy 12-10-2001, 02:27 AM I have heard it does not work. The onlt thing that helped my dad grow hair back was all his pills for diabetes, that got me! Good luck. revival28 01-19-2002, 04:23 AM I have been using Rogain for about 6 years and I feel that it has kept my hair from falling out bald. I have a full head of hair... fine hair, but full. I tried Propecia once and it felt like someone kicked me in the nuts... it was awful. I discontinued that. *I found some Rogain at the dollar store... bad sign?* You be the judge, I feel it worked for me. Everyone is different. Babernethy 01-31-2002, 11:32 AM I have done the liver function tests...all is well. I am now into my fourth month of propecia...no side effects at all for me. I seem to have a bit of new hair growth on top...there is less skin to see, but I am grey so it is hard to tell. [This message has been edited by HB_SXPatrol (edited 02-01-2002).] Shel 02-01-2002, 09:27 AM Well My husband has been taking Rogaine for over 3 months now and I definitely see an improvement. He was just starting to get thin, but it looks a little fuller, almost back to his old head of hair. Babernethy 02-14-2002, 10:08 AM You apply Rogaine...you don't take it. It is topical. I'm here to say that I have noticed a difference with Propecia. I have a most definate increase in the hair on the crown of my head...no side effects, liver function is fine. I ma hyper glycemic, so was in a higher risk category for liver problems. I've had my blood work done, sugar is low (passed out after 2 vials..normal for me), but otherwise no problem. There is growth on the top...4 months into it now. I will update each month. B [This message has been edited by HB_SXPatrol (edited 02-14-2002).] Shel 02-18-2002, 07:36 AM Yes you APPLY rogaine. Hawk 03-10-2002, 01:14 AM hehe, well Ill have to remember Rogain and Saw Palmetto if I ever start having problems. im 20 and have very fine hair but so far am not losing it like my younger brother is. Heres hoping :) Babernethy 03-25-2002, 12:51 PM 5 months plus into Propecia... definate improvements and no side effects. My wife and others have noticed that my hair is fuller, and I no longer have an obvious bald spot on top. It is slowly filling in. I have also noted a small amount of new hairs on my forehead hair line. I was able to tell just how much more hair I had when I used Herbatint and dyed it. Since my hair is mostly grey, the light coloured hairs were not too obvious. Dyed dark brown, they stand out far better. Quite happy with the product...wish it was less expensive though! B rnmcd 03-18-2003, 01:00 AM Babernethy~ please give us an update on your propecia use. Thanks. rnmcd 11-07-2003, 05:15 PM Babernethy~ please give us an update on your propecia use. Thank you. usadaytrader 09-17-2007, 01:08 AM I used rogaine with good results. I stopped for awhile and it started falling out again. It grew back again after rogaine. Some of it was pretty thick. I noticed that my left hand (which I used to rub rogaine into my scalp) has long thicker hairs on my fingers and the side of my hand than my right hand does. Maybe coincedence? JinL 09-17-2007, 08:25 AM Do you want sex or your husband to have hair? Deveator 09-18-2007, 11:37 AM Take Proscar instead it is covered under benefit plans and you only have to take 1/4 or a pill. 4 months wills cost about $60.000 if you are not covered. Still cheaper then Propecia |
