I am a 26 year old male. At the first of August I got really sick with a high fever (103), fatigue, night sweats, swollen lymph nodes, and was sick for about 2 weeks. Very classic mono symptoms, but over the course of those 2 weeks I had 2 monospot tests that were both negative, then the doctor did an EBV test (virus that causes mono) and it came back positive.

3 weeks later I got sick again with the same symptoms but not as severe. I went in and the doctor said it’s still mono and that it could stay in my system with some symptoms for 3 months or so. I told him I had read that these symptoms were similar to lymphoma, and also I reiterated that I failed two monospot tests (which is rare) and asked him if he thought I should be concerned. He said his best clinical opinion is that I definitely had mono.

Well I was fine for about the next two months, then last Wednesday I got tested positive for swine flu. I know that brings on a lot of symptoms, too, but also have enlarged lymph nodes that aren’t extremely painful (the same lymph nodes from the previous instance of being sick), and I have had a few night sweats. I know I have the swine flu for sure, but the night sweats just bother me, like I could also have something else going on. It has been more than 3 months so I don’t know if the mono is completely out of my system.

Do you think that this could be lymphoma just coupled with flu, and because of the fevers I’m showing night sweats, or do you think it’s not too abnormal to have night sweats while having the flu, especially if I just got over mono? The two months I wasn’t sick, my lymph nodes did not seem swollen, but I could feel them, almost like they might have been swollen a little. I don’t really know. I am very thin and can feel the ones in my groin and have been able to ever since childhood, so I don’t know if the neck ones are the same scenario or if they were actually swollen in that 2 month time period and just slightly. I do know for sure they got much more obviously swollen when I came down with the flu.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

It is normal to be sick for a while once you have mono. As for you having the flu and sweating that is also normal, the fact that your lymphnodes are swollen is also normal.
You've had a fever ao at some points when it starts to break it's normal for you to sweat. Your lymphnodes are working super hard so they become tender and swollen because they are helping your body fight the flu. I think all your symptoms are normal considering you've been sick. When you get completely better you should definately not be experiencing nightsweats as for your nodes they will start to go back to regular size gradually. Hope you feel better soon.
