was at the gym and noticed alot of guys when they are in the shower they leave on there underwear. i can't understand this. Why do guys do this are they ashamed or afraid of something. just curious if any other guys noticed this and what there opinion is.

They probably either think they are a little small in the tool department, or maybe they are concerned about gay men looking at them. Either is a crazy reason to use the shower with your underwear on, IMHO.

I have noticed the same thing, but especially among men born in other countries. Maybe it is cultural.

Yea i agree with endinaman i believe that it is a cultural thing as i lived in German for a year and guys there walk around in change rooms completly naked and no-one cares at all.

IMHO, people in this country are a little too uncomfortable about the human body. It comes from the early puritan days and has yet to leave us. I'm not saying we need to be parading around in public naked, but in a locker room what do you expect to see? We all have one, they are all more or less the same. Sure some are smaller, some are bigger. Some have foreskins, some do not. But otherwise, the equipment is the same.
To me, being worried about gay guys checking my stuff out is about the siliest thing I've heard of. First of all, a gay guy will check you out whether or not you have any clothes on. Secondly, so what? As long as no overt moves are made, what's the big deal? Thirdly, news bulletin: straight guys are checking you out too. Not because they're sexually stimulated but rather to wonder how theirs compares to yours.
Incidentally, I can't think of a better way to draw attention to yourself than to wear your underwear while using in the shower. Back when I was showering after gym class (the 80's) I can guarantee that people would've made fun of you if you did that.
People in this country need be a little more sensible in regard to the naked body. We do alot of things right over here, but this is one area that could stand a little improvement.

This is the first time I have heard this. I have never heard or seen anyone have undies on in the shower. Granted I grew up in Scandinavia, but I now live in the US. In the gym all guys took showers naked together, it was no biggy all guys have one, granted some were smaller and some were bigger, but no one ever got teased about it, because everyone knows how that might feel if a girl did it to you. Back then it never phased me that there were gay guys around. But ofcourse if 1 guy out of 20 in the shower had an erection, then I am sure that, that guy would have been laughed at and shunned out completely. Moving here I never knew women had their tops on, on the beach either. From where I come from all girls do take their tops off on the beach but it not like guys were all weird over it either or starred at them. All girls boobs look the same after a while and becomes non sexual in a way, atleast on the beach.

Nope, sometimes guys stand there and shower and talk about what evers, football while showering together or squirting soap on each others and joke around. I didn't know girls had seperate shower cubicles?

I think its just that some guys insecure or shy about public nudity. Its like to you, it may just feel like being naked in your own shower, but to them it may feel like being nude out in the middle of NYC. Its all mental and its all different for different people.

In HS we were forced to shower after PE. That was 25 years ago (boy I feel old!) and I HATED it. Had serious issues with body image and self esteem and didn't want to be in that shower with all those other guys. Being uncut didn't help much...I already felt somewhat different anyway. I almost failed PE because I refused to shower (and we lost points when we didn't) Funny thing was that it was all about me, I never heard one word about my size or anyone elses...it was just a bunch of naked guys standing around washing off the sweat. So it was really all my own insecurities. I've grown up since then and just in the last 2 years joined a gym at a local college. I'm much older than most there and shower after every workout never haveing a problem with it at all. However, I can't tell you how many guys I've seen come in in a bathing suit, be very "protective" when they undress and appear totally un-nerved by the whole thing. I work in a HS and have been in the locker room after sports events with the coaches (I don't coach) and have seen guys one at a time go into the shower room to change clothes away from everyone else...and NO one ever showers there. I just find it all very interesting and complex...totally about body image and such stuff I suppose.

The thing about public showers and shyness is that you grow up only showering alone or with your girlfriend and you feel strange about well strangers, you can think or worry that you'd be uncomfortable if someone spoke to you cos I don't want to be looking at some guy in the nude as you'd feel uneasy if he or yourself compared size or whatever. Also when I shower I always wash my penis thoroughly and my undercarriage. How can you do that in front of people without it feeling 'personal'?? I couldn't shower/bath without cleaning down below!!

The thing about showers is that you're there to get a job done...getting clean. That means everything, everywhere...yep even the undercarriage! Other guys need to do the same thing, so you wash it and get it all done well. No big deal really, you'll see other guys doing the same thing. Gotta remember that everyone there is in there for the same reason, and not one of them could care less about what you're doing. Oh and by the way, chances are at least some of them wonder the same things you do and may even feel some of the same stuff. I've learned to focus on me and why I'm there, makes it a heck of alot easier!
