Hi-
Am 48 year old female being treated for depression and anxiety. Symptoms are low mood, and obsessing about itching, tingling, and burning sensations on my skin. Was on paxil 5-10 mgs for one week and got really nervous, heart racing, jittery, couldn't sit still. Switched to zoloft 12.5 and xanax .5 (one per day). On two weeks now. Heart races and still jittery. Should I switch to 25 mg like dr. wants? Skin problems and anxiety about it were better some days but this heart thing and jitters are driving me crazy. All my lab tests were normal and dr. does not think the skin thing is neuro. Anybody have this? Maybe ssris aren't for me? Any advice would be appreciated.

SSRI's have nervousness and restlessness listed as possible side effects. Not something good to have.

If you are on anti-anxiety meds, they can cause depression. I don't know what's causing your skin stuff but some anti-anxiety meds could cause this(the withdrawal from them). Using antibacterial soap and lotions might soothe any irritation.

I cant take either one of thoughs because they have the same chemistry in them. You may want to let your Dr. know because zoloft, paxil, and prozac are in the same family so they give you the same feelings as one another.

CBJ,

I have those very same symptoms while I am in a manic phase. I have read that people have been diagnosed with depression, but really have bi-polar or bi-polar II disorder. You might want to talk to your doctor about this.

Best wishes!
