Maybe ya'll can help...I have recently made a HUGE decision to start going to therapy. The trouble is, I am having a difficult time deciding who and where to go. Any advice?? Also, I am from Texarkana...if anyone (in a one in million chance) happens to be from Texarkana too, maybe you can tell me some names of reliable psychologists I could go to. Thanks a bunch!! :-)).

as you can see i am not from your area but i have found in my own personal expierience that the only way to find a therapist that is right for you is to go for a few sessions to see if you connect

I asked a similar question recently and got some good answers. In short, the therapist should be qualified and have the right experience/focus for your situation. Also, how do they establish rapor? The last person I went to acted cool toward me, very matter-of-fact about my depression, and sometimes tried to change my actions by shaming me. She was NOT what I needed. I want my therapist to be more accepting, more open to being my partner in ideas of ways for me to improve, etc. So, you shoul ask yourself what you want out of therapy. Also, be aware that if you think you need medication, you will need to see a psychiatrist, but those people are in short supply where I am and often don't want to do the sessions, just prescribe drugs.

i also had a therapist that was cruel and judgemental
I knew she did not like me and when i confronted her
about it she might as well have admitted it.
I didnt think they were supoose to be like that.
some one who would go into that profession,i would think would want to help people not tear them down.
also it was unreal the amount of pscologists that did not reconize that my husband had a mental illness.
Be very careful choosing a therapists.

shop around. if you find one you like, dont stop looking, for you might find someone better. i guess do a few sessions with each

To find a therapist you like does mean trying them out.
But when I first had to find a psychologist, it was a learning experience.
My insurance had a list of mental health providers. From that list I asked (mental health person) alot of questions (back then) like: Is it a He or She; her specialty; did she have a PHd degree & where they went to school; her age.
Then I chose in my specialty someone who had the most education and someone who had alot of experience (40's or older). I preferred a male.
I got just what I wanted.
I also wanted an office that was efficient and if you called, you were called back.
Nowadays you probably can't find out too many of their details like 20 yrs ago. You also might look up their names in a database on the net to see if you can more info about them.
