Effexor Withdrawals- Need HELP Now!! [Archive]

My fiance was on Effexor, and he is currently on his way down off it. It's a long story, but he no longer wants to be on it and needs to go through the withdrawals. The doctor tapered his dose to this point, but that's no longer possible. He's on the lowest dose possible, so from that dose to zero is the smallest jump he can make.

I need to know if anyone has any tips to make the withdrawals easier. He's suffering from chills, nausea, abdominal pain, insecurity, dizziness, and an out-of-body feeling. Please HELP US, if you can!!!

I am on effexor myself and the only thing I can think of to ease it may be to just ride it out. I hate to say that but with the other meds I used to take, thats what the docs always told me. OR, maybe they were just terrible doctors LOL. Have you asked his doctor? Good luck to you.

Please tell your fiance that it will end!!! I was on Effexor for 5 years- when I tried to stop it was very difficult. I got electric shocks and felt horrible for awhile. It stops I promise! All I can say is hang in there! I am now trying to stop taking all meds- so maybe I had it easier than him as I was on Wellbutrin when I stopped the Effexor. The symptoms I have now are also scary- but I know that most of the fear comes from wondering if it will ever stop. At least for Effexor, I know it will. Wishing you both the best of health,

I tried getting off effexor from 300mg to 75mg had no problems. Then trouble started. I got to taking it every other day and after 2 weeks it kicked in and I started to have effects from withdrawl again. This is very hard to get off of. However it will end. I have heard of it taking up to 5 weeks to end. Just hang in there and try your best. I went back on the effexor and gave up trying to go off of it for awhile because I couldn't stand the withdrawl effects. Good luck and hang tight. I know it is easier said then done.

I am on effexor and I don't even want to think of what it's going to be like to come off of it,I just know I will have to do it very slowly....I took paxil for four years and then I got depression and the paxil stopped working for me and I went through hell.It might be that I was also having withdrawls from the paxil,but I always thought is was the depression. I was on Effexor for several years and had the same type of withdrawal symptoms. I had a friend who was a pharmacist. She told me to take dramamine (NOT the non-drowsy formula). It really helped me get through the withdrawals. Give it a try.
