I've been on effexor for about 7 months so i know all about the horrible withdrawl effects (missing one to many days). I also do get strange vivid dreams and nightsweats every now and then. aside from that ,effexor is working nicely for my mdd, but i was wondering if anyone had noticed if they are more violent while on the pill. i think i'm more agitated and agressive then i use to be. anyone notice anything strange? i did some research but all i could find was the withdrawl effects, nightsweats and dreams. so maybe it's just me. i have talked to my doctor about it

Hi Seldon,
I had a female friend living with me who was taking Efexor 225mg and she definitely became more aggressive, irritable and her libido increased but compared to the depression she had Efexor was a great success.....

As we speak, I am in the midst of withdrawal.
If I had known how addictive this was I would have opted out.
The drug manufacturers aren't always honest in their studies and will down play their research when it comes to negative side effects.
I am a pharmacy technician and I can tell you first hand some of these people who alter research documentation and such should be drawn and quartered.
I look to the U.K. first anymore on their documentation of drugs. American drug companies have a lot to lose so their documentation is cloudy.

Ive only been on effexor for three months, and because of various hypersensitivity issues have only gotten up to 75 mg, but i have noticed a DRASTIC surge in irritability, anger, agression, and hostility since i passed the 50 mg mark. I think its seriously effecting me. BUT, it IS definitely relieving the OCD, so i can live with some agression with no channel.

thank you for replying. i do agree that the drug companies in the US do cloud up their reasearch. Still my family doctor told me that paxil was very addictive and recommended prozac. alas when i finally got a psychiatrist and move to effexor she told me nothing of the withdrawls and such. i suppose me and my parents should have done research before hand. i would have tried less addictive drugs before finally going to this one
My doc started me out on 150 and I'm finally at 300 which seems to work well.
i think i'll do the same and just stick to the added agression since it has helped me alot with my depression. unless it gets bothersome of course.

Im at 225 mg and have had no problems at all with effexor. I have even cut back dosage before and stopped for a week and been ok other than feeling a little anxious.

She is one of the lucky ones. I can always tell when I miss Effexor. My uncle switched meds no problem, but I had terrible withdrawls from going off Paxil--and I even went slower than prescribed by the doc. I am currently coming off Effexor. I am overlapping Zoloft at a low dose to get it in my system and I am down to 75 of Effexor. I am doing OK. But the dreams & fatigue are the worst for me from Effexor. I always felt after those crazy dreams like I didn't sleep--and the dreams stayed with me all day. And of course sleep deprivation leads to crashing and depression, so I wanted off Effexor. I'll stay in touch and let you know how I like Zoloft.

I have used effexor for 2 years. The only side effect for me is the vivid dreams which don't bother me, unless they are nightmares, which don't happen any more often than normal... But the withdrawal is horrible. If anyone wants to come off of this medication do it very slowly in dosage levels.

i had used effexor years ago and i had pretty much what you have with the reactions. of course this was during the time i was being missed diagnosed. i have bipolar. i do know from experience effexor, paxil and zoloft which is a cousin of paxil. they all have withdrawl effects. my worst was on paxil. coming off of that i didnt know reality from non reality. i have a good shrink who knows his meds. if i were you try something else. theres a million drugs out there

Seldon, I rate effexor as one of the best AD's out there, my opinion of course. Paxil also worked well for me. The AD's that I didn't care for were, celexa, and Zoloft. Also prozac worked well for me, and then for some odd reason, it just quit working after about 6 mos. Also the effexor helps my anxiety, as did the paxil, and for me that's a plus. see ya.

I've been on Effexor for some time now, don't remember just how long because I've got short term memory loss and tend to have brainfarts. I started on Paxil and didn't notice any weight gain.
With the Effexor I now have started a pot belly. Makes me mad because I've averaged the same weight since I was 16, I'm 42 now. I still have the same waist size though. I was mean as all get out on Paxil but don't have that problem with Effexor. I've never had any side effects from missing a dose of the Effexor, the morning dose I always remember, it's the evening dose that I occasionaly space out.
I however have other issues with the Effexor even though it works better for me than Paxil. I'm researching now and within the next few days I'm going to ask about switching from Effexor.
Overall the Effexor has done a much better job helping with the depression and anxiety.
Please realize that this is my opinion of the drug and that not all drugs affect all people the same.

Seldon, me again. I've never had a AD to make me mean. They do make me more out going, but thats a "good" thing for me. Also the sweating I can relate too, especially while I was on paxil. bye now.

I have been on Effexor for 4 months and I love it. The only side effect I have is vivid dreams - they are good dreams so I do not mind. I have actually realized that I am a lot more calm on this medication - I rarely ever get worked up about anything and I have not gained any weight - actually I lost a couple of pounds.

I was on it for almost a year but after missing a dose and feeling like I was going to die I got my Dr to wean me off. I feel great today and I hope to never need anti-depressents again.

Hey here is an update, I've been on effexor (not effexor xr) for more then a year now. I have had a weight problem while on effexor. Gained 15-20 lbs but I am going to say that is because I am also on remeron. (which is also notorious for it's weight gain)and because I do not take remeron reguarly. I do get alot of werid dream and some nightmares but i love dreams. And I have also discovered teeth problems from major dry mouth. 11 cavaties. Dry mouth can be a problem with both remeron and effexor. Which is bad since i have had a about of ED for half a year and go to the dentist every 6 months. I've seriously thought of coming off these for fear I 'll lose all my teeth by age 40 but they have change some of my additudes so much that I'm going to stick with them for awhile. I've looked up dry mouth which i suggest every one does on the net, and found certain gum and toothpaste I can battle it with. In my whole life i've had a total of 26 cavaties, ugh, i shutter at the thought of being toothless. i still get the aggressivness from the drug effexor....and oh yeah i'm on 350mg of effexor (not effexor xr) and 30 mg of remron and i don't take the remeron reguarly like i should
doing very good considering.

Been on effexor for over a year. Night sweats are not a problem actually I have been told drug is prescribed some times to menapausal women who dont take hormones to decrease the night sweats. Vivid dreams do occur but have not had nightmares since started on them. (Finally!) I take 3 37.5 in am and 4 in pm. Have noticed the "blonde effect"more. I have to write it down or forget it. Even cant remember names of people used to be able to tell you everyone in my graduating class all 320 people now unless I see or talk to you on a daily basis forget it. No weight gain due to medication when I gain weight is is due to other factors. Actually forget to eat....Not that that is a bad thing. I used to always plan out in my head what I would eat daily including snacks. I actually have no appettite hardly at all now. Most of my eating is programmed emotional eating. Withdrawal is awful even if I miss a dose i feel the effects. People will ask me if I remebered to take my medication. You can really tell by my mood.I must have been really awful before. I just went thru my second bout of sudden stopping of medication. This time due to doctor error and insurance issues. I had to go a week with out any medication. My dr warned me that the withdrawal would be similiar to that of a heroine addict. Never took herione but it was awful.Got so bad started throwing up blood. Now back on dosage as of today. Just went ahead and took my normal dosage and everything fine except for maybe a little unsteadiness every now and then.

Wow! I am so glad to have stumbled upon this website. I was looking for a page trying to find information effexor causing people to be agressive........i was thinking it was just me.
I have been having some pretty major problems with this. I got in a physical fight a couple of weeks ago....something that is so out of character for me. I've never even come close to this kind of behaviour before.
Today I found myself swearing at a customer service person........
both incidents i was extremely provoked, but i would never act like this in my past.
I am a bit worried about it........maybe i need some anger managment now. haha
my only other side effect has been night sweats like crazy. but the benefits are amazing.........

Hi - WOW -- what is the thing w/the teeth. I have taken Eff for a couple of years and I've had major dental issues. Is that supposed to be a side effect. I'm freaking out -- had to have surgery on tooth that already had a root canal and just told that it needs to be extracted and I need another RCT on the tooth right in front of it. As far as the agitation, aggression, yeah, I definitely feel it sometimes. Tks for your post.

I just started taking effexor and after reading how it makes some people agressive I am afraid to take it.
I was taking zoloft for bad anxiety and depression but it stopped working so my dr. switched me to effexor.
Is there anyone who is on effexor who it has really helped without causing the moodiness.
Thanks
Cattys

I have heard of a couple of cases where Zoloft has caused people to murder close ones. I am wondering if Effexor can have the same effect. I have shared with my cousin for many years. He has been taking a large dose of Effexor for some time and has been becoming more and more aggressive. It was obvious to me that someone was going to get hurt eventually. As it happened I was the "lucky" one. This is totally out of character for him. He would never hurt a woman. But, as we have been mates all our lives (we are both 60) I feel shattered that he would do this to me. I now wonder if the Effexor had any bearing on this incident.
