I'm concidering switching meds because I don't like the severity of the sexual side effects from Effexor. From the small bit of info that I've been able to find it looks like Lexapro doesn't have as strong of side effects.
Was just wondering if anyone has any experience with taking it.
thanx,
Zat

what may work for others may not work for you and visa versa. So no matter what you hear here, all you can really do is try it and see if it's right for you. I've been on it, but went back to celexa for I liked it better.

I've been on Lexapro for about two weeks. I was having tremors, difficulty sleeping, nausea, and muscle stiffness the first four days. My dose was lowered to 5mg. (from 10) and I haven't had any problems since. My mood is more stable, but I wouldn't say it was good, just yet. The anxiety is virtually gone and I haven't cried in a week after crying daily for six months or more. I am experiencing some mild sexual dysfunction. I'm waiting to see if it get's worse before I talk to doc about it. Good luck.

I too am on 20 mg. I feel anxious since the increase but have klonopin to take as needed. It has helped the depression.

I am on my fifth day 10 mg. The first two days I felt really spaced out and a little lightheaded. My stomach wasn't upset as long as I kept eating small amounts of food. Every day I feel a little better and a little more like my old self. I am very tired though. I have heard that this will pass. Anxiety is getting a little better but has a ways to go yet. It is hard getting work done because my mind is still in a bit of a fog. I hope that passes. How is everyone else doing?

I'm on Lexpro 15 mg and its really helping on the anxiety and depression with little side effects.
From what I know, Effexor also has sexual side effects, more so delayed orgasm and not decreased libido per se. Effexor is a serotonergic and noradrenergic reuptake inhibitor. It blocks the recycling of serotonin and norepinephrine by the pre-neuron, therefore increasing the amount left to excite the post-neuron. Generally, drugs that act on the neurotransmitter serotonin will suppress sexual functions.
Wellbutrin, from my knowledge and experience, doesn't have sexual side effects. It increases dopamine and norepinephrine and has no advertent effect on serotonin. (However, I'm no MD, so don't quote me on that. ) Perhaps your doctor can couple Wellbutrin with the Lexapro, or switch you over all together. Since Wellbutrin doesn't act on serotonin, it's not good for decreasing anxiety, obsessiveness, binge-eating, or other symptoms related to a deficiency of serotonin. It's much more activating and actually cause more anxiety due to its noradrenergic properties.
I hope I helped someone! Good luck!
