Hi...I was diagnosed with Severe Anxiety and Panic Disorder...I am currently on Paxil cr (25).It helps. But lately i have been feeling weird. I feel away from reality. Its really weird and freaks me out. I looked up my symptoms on the internet and found something called Depersonalization Disorder(DD). I have all the sypmtoms......anyone here been diagnosed with DD or had the symptoms I've had????

Depersonalization is listed as a side effect of Paxil.
Did these feelings start around the same time you started taking the medication?
Please let your doctor know, they may want to check the dosage or type of med you are taking.

Yes, for the first month after having my first panic attack, I experienced derealization/depersonalization. Actually, at times, THAT is what causes my attacks... that feeling that suddenly my brain/thoughts don't mesh with my body or where I am physically. The suckiest part is that when I'm in that place, I am SOOOO alone and NO ONE can pull me out. In all honesty, the only relief I've found is with xanax. I only take. .25 at a time and never more than .5 a day, but it seems that after I've taken the xanax I'll eventually get myself together. and in all honesty, just knowing that I've got something that will help seems to ward the symptoms off. anyhow. it sucks. I really hope the best for you.

rainswirls,

I can totally relate. I've experienced depersonalization and derealization for so many years that it's become second nature. There is a really good dp group but unfortunately I can't put the link on here.

I, like you, suffered from severe anxiety and panic attacks for the past year. I had that unreal feeling all the time. I was seeing a psychiatrist and he assured me that it was from "overthinking" and my brain was telling me it was tired of all this inward thinking (always thinking something was wrong with me). The worst part for me was while I was driving. LOTS of time to ruminate about the awful things that could happen. I found listening to talk radio or books on tape to be distracting. ANY thing that can distract your mind will help. I promise you that it does go away. I am proof of that. It doesn't go away overnight, I won't lie to you, but it will generally fade away once you decrease your anxiety and before you know it you'll have gone a whole day without thinking about that unreal feeling. Keep telling yourself that it isn't harmful and it WILL go away. Good luck!!!
