For the past three years I have been suffering from what was thought to be CFS and Fibromyalgia....however after 2internal medicine doctors, 2rhuemotolgists,and 2 general practioners...they now decide to get into endicrionolgy (extensive thyroid and diabetes) and also MS....I can not help but wonder..........
How similiar are the symptoms...?
I have horrible pain in my legs mostly and stiffness after being still or in the morning, horrible fatigue,
many bowel problems urgency and ibs,
sensitivity to cold/damp weather,
I have been through NSAids, painkillers, anti depressents without depression, phys therapy leaving me black and blue, and many other so called symptom relievers....as it is now year since I have held a job...and the rest has not helped me improve at all...
in fact everytime I would explain to the doctors that I was on decline they would confuse it with depression...it is much more like frustration.......finally after doc shopping which is quite difficult with an hmo
I have one listening he is grumpy but he is listening....anyway I had a herendous bout with 250 gallstones gallbladder removal and pancreatitis that almost killed me my liver was shutting down....I dont know if that is relevent also had mono/ebv too....
If anyone who has MS or knows the overlooked symptoms please fill me in...thanx luv scoobs

Just out of curiosity - if MS is suspected, why the thyroid testing? Why not straight for an MRI or spinal tap?

I really do not know ...I guess they rule out the thyroid first? blood tests are probably cheaper and easier to get out of the way ....you know the insurance probably wont pay for spinal taps unless everything else is negative? I am just guessing.....

Hi
Just like to say that some 5 years before myMS diagnosis .I was classed as having IBS .Then they redfined that to Crohns after
a lot of horrid tests. Then my Liver packed in .I was accused of being a alcoholic....I am teetotal.Have been for some 20 years. Then optic neuritis set in....then they did the MRI....then it was obvious.....Loads of plaques.Have a full gambit of odd sypmtoms on and off.But in my own sweet way,I have been researching .And the commonality of MS patients having some bowel disorder is high.Imagine my surprise when I read recently in one of the UK MS magazines. Then that Liver malfunction is a early symptom of MS.But is also syptomatic of other diseases.
One day they will look into early diagnosis.....this is getting ever more important with the advent of drugs that can really help if given very early.
I hope that your quest bears fruit sooner rather than later. Its the not knowing that is worse .Than actually finding out what the problem is.
Hang in there.
Rooting for you

Perhaps I should go have my eyes checked and see if there is anything there....if there is I will have something to persue.....I dont need a hmo referral for an eye exam... :)
