I have MS and I live in Colorado. My employer does not provide medical insurance, so I need to provide my own. I am currently covered by Kaiser Permanente. However, my status with Kaiser is on shaky ground. I am considered a "visiting" patient with them, since my coverage originates from California. So far, I have been covered for visits to a neurologist and for Avonex, but my visiting status has given me trouble when I needed hospitalization during my last two exacerbations.
I am now a permanent resident of Colorado, and the problems of my visiting status would be resolved if I applied for Colorado's Kaiser Permanente chapter. The trouble is that I live in a zip code that is not covered by Kaiser Permanente. So, I am trying to apply for any other company in Colorado that will have me and that will (hopefully) allow me to continue my Avonex.
I have applied for CoverColorado insurance, but was denied. CoverColorado needs to see proof that I have applied elsewhere and been rejected before I will be considered for CoverColorado. For obvious reasons, I don't want to intentionally get rejected by my current Kaiser insurance in order to be eligible to apply for CoverColorado.
Could anyone suggest an insurance company in Colorado that I should apply for? I would prefer a company that will allow me to continue my Avonex. I would also prefer a company that will accept me! But, if I get rejected, then at least maybe CoverColorado will take me!
I would greatly appreciate your help.
