I was diagnosed recently. I have minimal symptons at the moment, really just one dodgy leg. Can anyone tell me what the heat of a summer holiday on the Med is likely to do to me? Does heat affect everyone with MS, even in the early stages? Can anyone give me any advice?
Hoping for a holiday,
Hils

Hey Hils,

I haven't been on this site for a while so I don't know if this answer is coming too late for you (maybe you've gone on holiday already....).

From what I've heard, not everyone is heat sensitive.

It wouldn't hurt to test yourself, though. I am extremely heat sensitive and wouldn't go anywhere hot if you paid me.

The air conditioning died for 2 days at work and my left leg went weak and numb almost immediately on that first day. I ended up losing most of my motor control in my whole leg for a full month. You probably don't want to find this out while you are on holiday. For me, 2 weeks on beach would probably disable me completely for months. Not a happy thought.

Don't go nuts and go sit in a sauna for a few hours, but seriously think of testing yourself before you go away.

I hope it turns out that you are not heat sensitive.

Have a Great Holiday,

Di

I hope you have a good holiday, too. I suggest testing yourself in heat conditions, too. I am easily undone by heat, so it's clear I can't lay out in the sun anymore, can barely walk from car to building in our Texas heat.

I'm glad you brought this subject up because I want opinions about cooling vests. I know we are not allowed to mention brands or retailers, but there are so many different kinds, and I want to get one.

I saw a cooling hat on tv not so long ago, but it was one you had to soak in water and then put it on. Yuck, I'm looking for something I can wear on the way to work, not just at the beach on wet hair. But they do make those, which cooled down from 100 degrees to under 70 in about 30 seconds in the demonstration. Great for the beach.I searched them through Yahoo shopping and found several prices and brands, not bad looking hat, either.

Anyone have cooling vest opinions?
