Hi,
Didn't think I would ever post here, usually post at back problems and pain management.
But, there has been suspision of me having MS for a while now. I was suossd o do to doctos's to rule it out, bt i didn't go cuz i thought it was silly.
Now, reading up on it, many "moons" later, I actually have almost every symtom. I am scheduled for a MRI on sat. the 22. Will that rule it out, or leave qestin still unanswered?
Please help me. If someone could give me a brief discription of MS, not text book you find on tth web, i wold apprecialte it.

Dear Dayna:
Since MS is quite t he bazaar disease and there are many that mimic I would suggest seeing a neurologist that is highly qualified to rile out MS and other illnesses. A specialist might be in order, however most do not take insurance. If you have a PPO, there should be no problem on reimbursement.
Never be afraid to try something new. Remember that a lone
amateur built the ark. A large group of professionals built the Titanic.

MS symptoms can vary greatly from one patient to another. I can tell you mine, and can tell you what the most common are.
I need a cane to walk and can only walk 50 feet or so. leg weakness is common among people with MS
I have problems with bladder control. This too is a common symptom.
I have general fatigue. I basically just feel tired most of the time, even after I have slept all night. This might be the most common symptom.
I have some mild double vision. Vision problems are common as well.
For some MS'ers, symptoms come and go. For example your arm might go numb, for a month, then full feeling will return and you won't experience that symptom again for 10 or more years. btw, numbness is also common.
for others, symptoms just get progressively worse. these two forms of MS are called relapsing remitting and progressive.
My advice is the same as the other poster. Make an appointment with a neurologist. One who specializes in MS would be preferable. If you live near a large city, chances are you will find one a university hospital.

Thanks all,
I am seeing a neurologist right after I have an MRI for the possible MS. I don't know what the MRI will show but obviously it will show something. I just know that I am scared. (Plus I hate MRI's, lol)
I too walk with a cane, have loss of bladder (not all the time) have sensensation loss (you know where), pain, vision is starting to go, I chalked it up to old age, but i'm 33 so.......legs sometimes just don't want to work with the mind, forget to walk, I slur sometimes, I forgot simple words, like "car", I have memory problems, and so many more. I wish it were something simple, but fear is getting in the way. What do i have to look forward to, after the MRI?
Thanks,
dayna

Hi,
Had the mri today and now i am more nervous...waiting for the results. Sometimes i wish there would at least be a name put to all my problems, but i don't really want this one. Well we'll see I guess.
thanks

I too am scared. Iam 30 and feel "drunk" out of it all of the time. MRI sheduled the end of July. Vision is 20/20. Never really tire easily. Feel REALLY good after my chiropractic adjustments. Is brusing BIG BRUISES for no reason at all a symtom of MS? Please let me know. Thanks.

Lumbar puncture aka spinal tap is often used to diagnos MS. Big bruises is not common unless you bruise easily and are clumsy enough that you are running into things to cause the bruises. Walking like a drunk and the fatigue as well as the bladder problems and a hip that bothered every so often were my girlfriends major symptoms. She had been seeing an incompetent doc who was literally trying to tell her it was all in her head when she wound up seeing a great doc when hers had an emergency at the hospital. Needless to say this doc to one look at her records and immediately sent her to several specialists.

Not fatigue neccessarily....actually never. NOT walking like a drunk. Just feeling out of it and drunk....any further advice?

Ok guys,
Just got the results of the MRI, called in from the doctor, it came out fine....now what? Does that totally rule out MS or is that just one test? Sorry I don't know anything about this and am crossing my fingers that this is it.
love and luck to you all,

that doesn't totally rule out MS, but does lessen the chance. was the MRI of both the brain and spinal cord? The usual components of an MS diagnosis are as follows...
MRI
Spinal Tap
Video and Audio evoked response tests
symptomology
All of these are part of the diagnosis. MS is a very tricky disease, to diagnose and treat. I would say a neurologist would be reluctant to diagnose MS without a conclusive MRI. He might tell you something like it is "possible MS"

Hi F-man,

Thanks, I feel better, I think. My husband really thinks its my back problems and the meds, but i do have a lot of the symptoms so it's a damn hard disease to pinpoint. It reminds me of when they were dx my epilepsy, because i didn't have grandmal seizures, it was hard.
Anyhow, I drop back to say what the neuro says, should see him soon.
Thanks,
dayna

Hey F-man,
Phew, thought you were mad at me, lol. I can't say what he was thinking,lol...but could be fart man like howard stern, lol.
How r u doing? I hope ok, it's great to here from you.
I think I told you that the mri came out ok, and found out that the reason for my double vision was cuz i have some asigmatism in my eyes. So two down.
Looking good. Let me ask you a question. Is swollen leg/feet a symptom of MS. That's been my last problem. I fell down the stairs the other week. Man did I mess myself up. My leg didn't move when I told it to so down i went. 12 days later, my feet swelled up 4 times the size. Along with bottom of legs. Wicked pitted edema. I hurt my knees pretty bad, but there gonna be checked out by an ortho wednesday. They are gonna rule out kidney or liver or whatever it is, it can't remember damage. So I'm just wondering if you know anything about the swelling. Idon't think it was injury related cuz it happened way two long after. Any ideas???
Glad I didn't get you upset,lol

Hi Dayna,
while I am a big Stern fan, my name is not short for Fart Man, lol. I don't think swollen feet is a common MS symptom. I did have swollen feet once, but that was after a 10 day regimen of IV solumedrol, so I think it had more to do with that than my MS. I'm not a doctor but I wouldn't be surprised if there were many possible causes of swollen feet. I wouldn't assume its not related to your fall though. In fact I'd say its likely. Another possibility that came to my mind was pregnancy. Is that possible?
