There is no evidence to the effect that IBM and Alzheimer's are related, but it really hasn't been studied yet. Here's a Q&A from the Myositis Associaltion's annual conference last October:

Q: Could you update us on the IBM Alzheimer's research?
DR. PAUL PLOTZ: I think at the moment that has to be thought of as almost in the form of a poetic image that it's really the same. I think the evidence that the genes for example -- there is at the moment no evidence that the genes which have been identified in Alzheimer's disease are genes that are important in inclusion body myositis. It's such a good idea. I loved the idea when I heard about it, but in fact I think there's almost no solid evidence behind it, and it itself is not a research question. So when people are looking at inclusion body myositis and looking at Alzheimer's disease and some similarities have been noted, but I don't think it itself is a focus of anyone's research.
