Anyone else prescribed Klonopin for their panic/anxiety. How do you like the results?

Hey Buck,

I took Klonopin several years ago for anxiety/panic. It worked great for me - calmed me down quickly with no side effects. I preferred it to Xanax, which is the only other benzodiazepine I've taken.

I was on Klonopin as a daily management for Panic and Ativan for specific Panic Attacks a few years ago. I was severly depressed with Agoraphobia. I admitted myself into the hospital and my meds were changed to Prozac, Klonopin, and Ativan (with counseling and a dayhab program). After 6 months I was a functioning productive adult again. I was medication free (and Panic free, though I did have occaisional boughts with anxiety)for 5 years until just recently when I began having Panic Attacks again (associated with hospitalization for a bleeding ulcer).

I was on Klonopin when I was having really severe attacks....about 6-10 full-blown attacks a day. Once I went on Klonopin and when through cognitive behavioral therapy, I started doing MUCH better. I have been off all medication for about 2 years now. I still have my bouts with anxiety, but I am managing. I think people should be able to take/do what they need in order to be able to recover.

Hi,
I’ve been talking Klonopin at 1mg twice a day since 1983. On November 1st of last year (2002), I went to the doctor as I was not sleeping very well, and consequently, tired (sleepy) during the day. My doctor suspected that since I was older (like almost 20 years later), and with my body chemistry changing, that the Klonopin might be the cause. So, following his recommendation, I began to wean myself off the drug very slowly. Well, let me tell you – it’s February 4th 2003, and I’m down to ½ mg at night and ½ mg every other morning. I’m about ready to jump out of my skin. My shoulders, neck and upper arms are so tight, and achy all day and all night until I go to bed, I’m just about ready to through in the towel. These symptoms (among others) are exactly what I experiences 20 to 25 years ago. For me, it’s back to the doctor, as I can’t do this any longer – I need help.

I would not advise anyone to start taking Klonopin. I was on .5mg twice a day for a few months and developed a tolerance to it. My doctor didn't want to increase the dosage, so I decided to wean myself off it. It is very hard - Klonopin is very addictive and you can't just quit taking it. You have to taper down and deal with the withdrawal symptoms - which for me are worse than the anxiety I started taking the Klonopin for. Please don't start taking it.

Yikes,
stay away from this stuff if at all possible. I'm sure it is good for some people but my story is a nightmare. I started taking it 7 years ago for head tremors and nervousness. I never knew how addictive it was at the time (my own fault). I only took .05 mg. whenever I felt I needed it. My neurologist now tells me I don't need it. So for the past 3 months I have been slowly weaning myself off. UNBELIEVABLE!!! I'm about to jump out of my skin, I feel shaky, unconfident, nervous, dizzy, basically, someone I don't know. My muscles are tight and now I'm experiencing panic attacks at the very thought of going to the doctor who told me to get off Kolonopin in the first place. So now I have this "white coat syndome" that I never had before. I know I'll get through this, but my gosh, don't take this drug if you have a choice and really know what you are doing.
