I am wondering how other parents handle their self care....such as being good to themselves to avoid high levels of stress, which can be debilitating.
I have more than one child with special mental health needs, that's what is likely to bring me to my boiling point, but I know that all parents have things that they deal with and safe havens for themselves....what's yours?
I enjoy the company of many pets, which is therapeutic and I enjoy creating new things in the kitchen.

Cross-stitching has always been my most relaxing activity. I just have to keep it high up so that the baby can't get hold of it. By the way, my daughter (the afore-mentioned baby) is almost two, and I bought some plastic canvas and a BIG tapestry needle and I am trying to teach her how to sew too (under close supervision, of course.) She doesn't quite get it, yet, but she will. I also like to cook, crochet, make clothes for my daughter (which I don't do enough of) and read.

Hi CTmom~
My best ways to relax with some "me" time mostly occur when my children (ages 11, 4, 2) are in bed. They are long bubble baths with soft music and some candles, reading books in bed or bath, scrapbooking, and painting. Those are the best ways to recharge my energy and my spirit each day. I also take advantage of our "mother's morning out" at the church twice a month and go spend some time with some of my friends. We usually just go sit and chat over lunch but we have also done hair salons, shopping--more talking than shopping, manicures and facials. It is really great to have time out with the girls sometimes. We can really share so much love and joy into each other's lives.

I have been reading a book called the busy womans guide to a balanced life. It is a christian book and I love it. Read anything that you might would enjoy. You may not enjoy reading at all so do something you enjoy whether it is take a bath in peace and quiet. If you are like me that is not easy. Make time for yourself. I am finding out now. Good Luck! :bouncing:
