OKAY I KNOW I KNOW I KNOW......DON"T BITE BACK! Too late. Hey my mom did it to me and I stoped and I did it to my first kid and she stopped and then there is Grace, my second. She is on a spree! She has cooled off for a few weeks so I hope it is over and though the phase is normal I fear it will return so I am gathering notes before it could resume. If biting was like shooting someone she would be the Sniper in Diapers!!! HELP!!

Since I did not have vicious biters, not sure I can be of much help. Some children resort to biting as a way of defense.

Here is one site with info: http://babyparenting.about.com/library/weekly/aa090798.htm

Do an internet search using Google.com for "children biting" and you will find several sites with ino.

Her first incidents were out of affection if you can believe it! She would go over all happy and hug the kids and then bite. Eventually my 3 year old had enough and bit back showing aggressiona dn the 1 year old was like, "AH HA So that is what biting is also good for!". After that she bit in an aggressive manner. Like I said, though, so far so good, but fearing a slip up.

Marie55, I went to the link you posted and found it very interesting. Two out of five of my kids were "biters" We would tell them sternly "NO" but it lasted about a year with each one. I just told their siblings to beware.
One son bit just about every time that I told him "no"
but, it was very predictable and I would just make sure his mouth did not make contact with my skin until he settled down. Now he is a very sweet just turned 6.

Don't know if this is really good advise or not, I had a daycare provider do this to my daughter when she was young (No longer there???) and it worked. The last time my daughter bit (at daycare only) the lady made her bite a bar of soap and my daughter never bit again. Of course I was furious and because of many other incidents that happened without my knowledge I am no longer there but I will say once you have a biter it is very frustrating , why they do it??? We never bit at home?? We tried everything to make her quite - have the biten one bite back, time outs, Bite herself to see how it hurt. Nothing worked until she did this. Good or bad-I guess it depends on how much more you can take - Now remember I'm not saying this is good advise (to each his own) I'm not sure I would ever do it-but I no longer have a biter. Hope this helps (maybe?)
