The baby that my husbnad and I have is one that we are adopting. It isn't legal yet but will be in a few weeks. Is it socially acceptable to have a "baby shower
', or something along those lines?

Of course it is socially acceptable, especially if it is your first child! Congratulations!

I think the purpose of a "baby shower" is to celebrate the arrival of your child with family and friends. This should be acceptable regardless if it is natural birth, adoption or etc.
We often have "Welcome" parties for foster children that are in our area. We have something similar to a baby shower and treat the children (regardless of age) to clothing, toys and supplies that they may need or want.
Congratulations!

First of all....CONGRATULATIONS!!!! :bouncing: A new life is always cause for celebration, and after all, if a baby shower isn't a celebration, then I don't know what it is. Have one, have two, even have three!

We also adopted our son, and I couldn't convince my friends and relatives to STOP having showers! We also posted an adoption announcement in the paper. It is such a unique and wonderful time for you. Shout it out to the world! Enjoy!....franjo
