Does this ring bells with anyone ?
5 months ago I caught a virus which started v.quickly and developed into a bad chest infection, with fever etc. The coughing eventually cleared up but I still felt ill, v tired, and cold air started the cough again. I developed pain between my shoulder blades and found difficulty in breathing. Lying down seemed to help - nothing else did. I saw a chest consultant who said "bronchial hyper re-activity" and started me on a steroid inhaler - he also suggested post viral syndrome to explain the tiredness. He warned that it might take up to 2 years for me to feel better. Lately I feel worse - not better ! More pain, more often - and also across my upper chest (front), seems to get worse by breathing cold air and if I'm more tired than usual.
Doc had said Post viral syndrome / M.E. which didn't explain the chest pain to me, but yesterday said "Bornholm disease" and started me on an anti inflammatory (Diclofenac).
I have been reading info on Bornholm, most of which says that it can last a few weeks (not months) and is contagious - does what I am describing sound familiar to anyone?

Hi my name is Francine.
Yes what u are discribing is not all in your mind. 3 months ago like you I got ill. At first I was told it was just a virus. And it would go away. I have no immune system to fight stuff like this. Then a month 2 i got worse and was told i had a bacterial infection was put on antibiotics. Finished them but 2 days off and i was back full of what seemed like a cold. I was very tired. But i put that down to me struggling as i need 2 knee replacements. Went out shopping with my husband and OMG i reached for somthing and the pain. That pain that i got I thought i was having a heart attack. I slumped over the cart the only way i could breath was by hyperventelating. I had pain shoot down into my right arm lost all feeling in my hand and pins and needles in my fingers. This kept going on. So This month went to him he did a ECG turns out my ticker is fine. But i had somthing called Bornholm disease. Never heard of it. He told me i would have a heck of a time getting rid of it as most people need a immune system to help. And the only other way to treat it is with pain killers well i am already on moriphine meds for knees. He then said that long time ago there was a island people got it and it wiped the whole town out. And if not treated right or the body cant fight it you can slowly die from it. ( In a nut shell I am the slow one) Still getting the pains. Extremely tired hate going out as i am afraid to have a attack and draw attention to myself. And i have been reading up on it and one thing about it not alot is said about this rare disease. I am with u though love. A Friend Francine:angel: PS did they do any special tests on you????? hope to hear from u soon.
