View Full Version : Leg sensations

On and off for the last 3 months I have had strange sensations in my legs. Not weakness really, just the rubbery leg feeling you get when you need to strech your legs. Usually this happens when I first stand up. After walking for a few minutes it goes away. This doesn't happen every time I stand up just every once in a while. I have also been having some weakness behind my knees and in the knee joint along with a little muscle cramps and some pain in my foot. My doctor ran tests for thyroid, rhumtoid arthritis, infection and connective tissue disease and found nothing wrong. My leg endurance is fine. Just last week I was walking 3 miles a day. The doc thinks it is stress, but I don't know about that. I am a 37 year old male with no other health problems. Oh by the way, sometimes after walking my calves really tighten up. And I also get a weak feeling sometimes in the front of my thighs. I have also felt some slight heaviness (weakness) in my upper arms and across my back.

Any thoughts?

thanks

Hi~

I think I read your post on another board with this same question. I thought about responding, but was hesitant. I read you were worried about having ALS. I've had my own personal scare myself so I know how you feel. I don't experience weakness but I have the twitching. I scared myself so bad reading about twitching and ALS on the interent..SCARY!!

It took 2 months to get an appt with a movement disorder specialist, in the meantime I was reading everything I could. Weakness is a symptom of lots of things, so don't go letting your mind freak you out into thinking it's something really really bad.

I had an EMG/NCV, basically it showed nothing bad. They said my nerves are hyper excited from nerves and stress :( so now I'm on lexapro.

Are you going to get an EMG/NVC test?

Renee :)

Renee thanks for the response. Yes I did post this on the general board but thought I would make it more specific. The more I read into ALS, I don't think that is what is going on. I think more and more it is stress related. I have a follow up visit with my doc on Monday and am going to run the EMG by him, but I think I know what his answer will be. More exercise and less stress (right!) I hope so anyway.

Good luck on your tests Monday. It's almost here! When it's over he/she will read the results to you right there. Atleast that's what they did for me. The neurologist did the test, not a tech.

Again, the best of luck to you, and afterwards you can celebrate..I did with a frozen margarita. :D

Renee
