I saw an episode of ER on television in which a man, during a spinal tap, suddenly jerked and cried out that it hurt too much. He had to be held down. Is the procedure really that painful??? Now I am scared to have a medical problem evaluated or fear of having a spinal tap done. Can't the patient be sufficiently sedated?
