Noone in the pain management board knows so I'll try you! I have polyneuropathy and recently had a ulnar decompression and cts that turned into a 3.5 hr surgical fiasco with resulting nerve damage to the ulnar and median nerve in left hand, not Dr fault they just didn't think it would be such a mess in there as the tests didn't show that. I wasn't able to tolerate neurontin or topomax a few years back so he gave me zonegran as it is on the same line. I would like some hands on experience from real users not just what the PDR says or the pharmacuetical co information that would like you to believe.

Dear Nancy,

I was just on Zonegran for two months. (they just switched me to Topomax). I was/am on these type of meds for chrinic undiagnosed "nerve" pain.

The only other experience Ive had was with Neurontin and that was like living in a "fog" for me. With the Zonegran I was not like that at all, I was clear headed. I was up to 300mg until they switched me though, so I dont know about any higher doses.

I experienced no side effects. Im not really sure what else I can say from my experience with it. The only reason Im switching is that it didnt seem to help with the pain (although thats not to say that it wont help you, as they have yet to diagnose whats wrong with me).

Hope this help?

Nancy,

I had an appt. with my PM doctor this week and I remembered, and reasked her if I was remembering correctly, that she said to not take calcium pills with the Zonegran. She said that it could interfer with it. When I say Calcium pills I mean the vitamins, should you take them also, perhaps thats something to ask you doctor about to with the Zonegran incase he/she hasnt mentioned it? It was a general thing... and she explained that I could take my vitamins an hour or two later, just not a good idea to take at the same time. Thought Id just add that since I remembered your post from a while back and we were reviewing my previous meds. Hope all is great and its working wonders on you!! :)
