I have been looking, but haven't found much information from the receiving end of holistic or nutritional approaches to alleviating the symptoms of neuropathy. Has anyone had any experience with any holistic methods?

Hi Susan,
What's the definition of holistic methods? I know that term is bantied about a lot, but what does it really mean?
Nutritioanlly, I've decided to make sure I'm not eating foods I'm allergic to. For example, for years I suffered with stomach problems and the docs kept running tests--all the while it was food allergies!
Now that I have peripheral neuropathy I've discovered there are foods that can hinder the body's ability to absorb vital B12--a reason why some people get PN. Right now I'm trying a gluten-free diet.
I suppose it would be easier to get checked by an allergist...more time....more money...ho hum.
What kind of information are you looking for?

Hi Brice
Thanks for replying. This is all new to me. I have neuropathy in my foot and left hand. The doctors I've talked to, don't SEEM to understand it, or have any suggestions other than the traditional ones.
I'm looking for Healthy Alternatives. Holistic = Natural. Herbs, vitamins, accupuncture, massage, foods etc. I want SO MUCH to get off the medicines. My PN was caused by being in a comma and then immobile for a another month and a half. It's caused by pressure to my back and elbow for prolonged periods of time. Which means they moved me, but put me back in the same position. I remember them moving me, and then putting my head in an awkward position, and wanting to scream, Can't you see my head is in an unnatural position? Anyways....
I know about the B-1 and B-12 and folic acid. I'm looking for other suggestions too. I also have swelling in the feet. I currently wear support hose which is helping tremendously, but are there any other alternatives to keep the swelling down? I have just gone back to work full time so sitting with my feet up is no longer an option.

Sure, just put the name of the board, mentioned earlier, in your search engine, I use Google, and then when you get to the site, search for neuropathy. It is all there under the topic: A complete program to help PN healing and reduce pain. The guy who posted it, has been gathering the information from these boards and put some informative information all in one post.
Hope it helps.

Hi, Susan,
I've heard a lot of folks taking alpha-lipoic acid too and many are including melatonin for sleep and lots of Methylcobalamin B12 daily. CoQ10 and E are good I hear.
