About 3 years ago I developed burning sensation down my left arm which gradually spread throughout my whole body. Now my whole body feels as though it is burning. It is worsened by heat and/or cold. It would keep me up at nite until I considered suicide. I saw about 7 or so doctors who couldnot figure out what was wrong. One lovely dr. even said I needed to see a psychiatristbecause there was nothing wrong with me. Luckily, my family dr. believed I was in terrible pain and finally sent me to the OSU clinic and a specialist who he thought might help me if anyone could. As soon as I opened my mouth to mention my symptoms the dr. smiled and finished naming the rest of my symptoms for me. I started to cry I was so happy that someone finally knew(other than my hubby)that I was telling the truth about my strange condition! The dr. said "Yeah we know about you because we have devised tests to tell if people have this neuropathy" Wow, I was floored and said sure they could test me... all day if they wanted. And of course, they did.
Well, sadly, knowing what you have and fixing it are two different things, but they are working on it and so is my PCP now. They can only help about 50% of the pain which is better than nothing. I am on Zonegran, Depakote, Prozac, Kadian and Phenergan for nausea. They help for awhile, but every so often I have to go back and try something else because the pain flairs up worse than ever. I wish there was a happy ending to my story, but maybe some day..... I can only hope and pray.
