View Full Version : WTC Disaster has intensified my phobias!

Even though I have no direct ties to the disaster or the victims, suddenly I'm afraid of EVERYTHING and all the things I conquered in the past (fear of the dark, fear of being alone, social fears) have all come back and I'm pretty much anxious and afraid of everything these days, especially my fear of the dark. Is anybody else having this happen? Also, my prayers go out to all of you who have been affected by that evil act.

You're not alone! I also feel that my phobias intensified. My main ones (phobia public speaking, social, being in a car/family members in a car) are soo much worse. Now I am scared to fly, too. Not fun.

yeah, I had those problmes, but in time, it has past. It's still there a little, but it is alot better. Your mind just needs time to cope and to realize that most likly, these things won't happen to you. I felt after the WTC thing happened, that some arab guy would come in my ouse and attack me! Of course now, I know it isn't likly of happening. Just give yourself time to cope. We all understand and feel the same. :round:

Whoa! This post hit me hard because it's exactly how I feel! I had some problems with anxiety and light depression before, but once I heard about the attacks, I was sure the world was going to end. I even had to go to the doctor to get on medication (Celexa) because I couldn't handle life anymore. Things are better now and getting better everyday, but I still fear irrational things. I've only been on the medication for 2 weeks so hopefully things will get better the longer I'm on it. I think it's really hard right now for anyone with anxiety problems right now. Everyone hang in there, we're all in this together. I think we'll all feel better in time.
