View Full Version : Symptoms of schitzophrenia?

Allllllright, well im kinda worried and i finally decided to ask about it. As i understand it, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (especially childhood onset) can be symptomatic of paranoid schitzophrenia. Ive read to be careful to look out for symptoms of schitz. because until im 25 or so im not in the clear... well, there are lots of symptoms that overlap here, but the one that has really scared me is this: about a month ago i started to hear whispers that werent there... little words that i could only barely hear... make out a word or two... and then about a week ago i had an hour and a half conversation with someone who wasnt there... i had just woken up when it said something like "good morning" and i responded as if it was the most normal thing in the world... i talked for an hour and a half out loud to someone who wasnt there, but who i could have sworn existed in some fashion...and who was quite articulate and well mannered, really... i need advice... is it worth getting schitzophrenia testing at this point? Please anybody, id like your opinion.

(please excuse my spelling of schitzophrenia if its wrong ^^)

Thanks! OCDemon

Hey!
You have me really concerned now, I suffer from OCD in a big way, and i've never heard that childhood
onset was symptoms of paranoid schizophrenia!!!!
Tell me more, but I have not experienced the voices.
hope to hear from you soon. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/wave.gif

Hi OCDemon,

Auditory hallucinations can be caused by things other than schizophrenia, but I would definitely recommend that you consult your doctor. That's the only way to be sure.

Best wishes,

Well first of all, i dont mean to freak you out, cwesterman. OCD and schizophrenia are just commonly concurrent, having OCD does NOT mean you will develop schizophrenia. It just appears that a lot of people who have schizophrenia also have OCD. Basically, you shouldnt start worrying about having schizophrenia even if you DO have OCD unless you start developing schizophrenia symptoms, such as the auditory hallucinations ive been getting... *I* need to worry, you dont *lol*

And thanks for the advice Chrys, but if i tell a health care professional about this now it could really screw up treatment for me if i DONT have schizophrenia...you think it would be okay to wait a while? Like until im sure this is something persistant? Cause it hasnt been doing this for very long, and the hallucination never told me to do anything... i think we talked about Locke's definition of Self, and Plato's duality concepts ^^ It was kinda fun, really.

(and yes, Cwesterman, the name OCDemon relates to the disorder ^_^)

Best Wishes,
OCDemon

Hi OCDemon,

Definitely rid yourself of the hallucination! I mean, Locke and Plato are a bit dry for my liking: mind-body dualism, theory of the cave, yadda, yadda. Now, if he decided to talk about Nietzsche or Sartre, that'd be a different story... http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/wink.gif

Seriously though, I guess you could see if it persists, but I would still be inclined to mention it to your doctor. It doesn't mean that you will automatically be diagnosed as Schizophrenic. The help we receive can only be as good as the information we give those helping us.

Best wishhes,
Chrys. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

True, Plato never exactly interested me. Existentialist conversation would have been better, but apparently my hallucinatory pal here never read Sartre ^_~

Alright, ive got an appointment in two days and ill bring it up then... i just hope this doesnt lead to more tests (which it will). Im so sick of those =P

Thanks Chrys

Hi OCDemon,

Be sure to let us know how it goes. In the meantime, leave a copy of "Being and Nothingness" beside your bed, to drop your hallucinatory pal a discrete hint http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/wink.gif

Take care and very best wishes,
Chrys. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif
