Hi-

I guess I should start by saying that I am not diagnosed with ADD/ADHD and have been treated with stimulants for the past couple months for treatment resistant depression. I am posting here, though, because I know these medications are rarely prescribed for anything except ADD or narcolepsy.

Two days ago I was switched from Adderrall 30 mg (20 mg am, 10 mg at noon or in early afternoon) to Dexedrine Spansule 30 mg (2 15mg capsules AM.) The Dexedrine has been a bit of a "jolt" although the doctor told me that they're "basically almost the same thing.") The pharmacist told me that Adderrall is a mixture of dextroamphetamine/amphetamine whereas Dexedrine is all dextroamphetamine. I wanted to know if one is generally more potent than the other, or simply what the difference is between dextroamph. versus regular amphetamine. Also if anyone knows if one is stronger than the other mg. per mg. (i.e. is Dexedrine 30mg more powerful than Adderrall 30mg.?) Any feedback would be appreciated, also if anyone has had better results on one or the other. I know that Adderrall is fairly new on the market for ADD and I've heard it's been marketed a lot, whereas the Dexedrine spansule has been available for a while.

thanks!

What do you mean by a jolt.. I am on adderall and have had to play with my dosage, to get it right. I can tell though when my adderall wear off. Ask you doctor to give you information on both medicines and what they are supposed to do. You have to be the one that is ultimately happy. You maybe be happy on one med and not happy on the other even it works better, but that is a decision you have to make. Which are you happier and more functional on. That is your answer, you Dr. is just a guide the final decision is ultimatrly yours. Good luck. If i can help email me at agteachsls@aol.com. My name is Sherrie
