I was wondering if everyone could list the medicine that seems to be of mosthelp for his problem! This problem is obviously a chemical imbalance.. I have been living with it since I was born. I would like to know what meds are helping people, without making them heavily sedated!!! Also, are most people here introverted? I am trying to figure this thing out once and for all!

When I was originally treated for OCD in 1991, Anafranil was brand new, and the first and only medication specifically for OCD. In the years that followed, I was tried on other meds, as well...too many to count. But as it turned out, the problem being treated was turning from OCD into depression. Eventually, the OCD was an afterthought, as my depression became very severe. In 1997, we were short on money, and I couldn't afford my meds. I discovered something amazing: the longer I was off my medication, the better I felt! It didn’t take me long to realize that my doctors had me so drugged up that I could barely function. This is not to say that I did not have genuine “problems,” but the biggest problem for me was overmedication. Now, here it is 2003, and I haven’t been on pysch medication since….and I never intend to be again. I still struggle with OCD…and even bouts of depression…but nothing compared to before. My OCD is not as bad as it used to be….or maybe I’ve just learned to cope.
This is a very personal decision. Maybe for you, medication is the answer. If you do choose that avenue, be aware of your condition: evaluate your quality of life on and off meds…and ask your doctors LOTS of questions.
Good luck!
