Bickering over nothing

Today, 2/3/03, I went out and used a public payphone. I wasn't as nervous as I thought. But now I feel that I might get sick. Any advice or has anyone used a public payphone since their diagnoisis with OCD?
My bad, I just realized I spelled pay phone wrong in the title.

If you're really uncomfortable using a pay phone, why don't you get yourself a cell phone?

I don't make that many phone calls outside of my house.

Since I'm obsessive about germs I bought myself a small bottle of hand sanitizer and use it on anything including door handles etc, you see I never touch door handles or use a pen the receptionist hands me to fill out papers or sign my name. I never use a phone other than my own cell phone. I use sleeves for opening doors, my foot to flush the toilet and carry my own pen anywhere I go. I avoid touching anything if at all possible, and if I have to, like at the gym I slosh disinfectives on it and my hands afterward. If I could I would find a way to breath my own private air.

Hello Bickering,
I also have a phobia about public phones. I have to take a bath after using a public phone. I have this strange fear that the phone reciever is "dirty". Of course, there is some evidence that would suggest that being apprehensive about using a public phone is justified...because I guess that many people may be unclean when they utilize pay phones. One idea that you might be able to employ: moist antibacterial wipes. You might feel better if you wipe the phone reciever with antibacterial wipes before you use it- especially the part of the phone that touches your ear. I understand your phobia, I'm sad to say. I only use pay phones when its an emergency and I absolutely have no alternative.
