Hi!
Im 35 & have a loonng history of ocd/panic/
hyponchondriasis. Although I'm on meds,
I'm finding it impossible even in todays day & age
to escape the "stigma" of mental illness.
The only one who REALLY understands me is my mother
(who has the SAME genetics as me!)
I am very shy among "peers", live in a small town
where everyone's married w/kids & the so-called
friends I used to have are far too busy for me.
Yes, I've tried counseling, churches, singles groups,
ect. After much disapointment from people, I get
so depressed I'd like to die.
There are NO SUPPORT GROUPS in Central MN for
people like me. Also, I'm very emotionally sensitive
& the slightest remark sends me crying.
I live with two cats--they just bite & claw me.
I also work as my dad's assistant at work(40 guys
in a factory in back--no social life there!)
Anyone relate???
Any help would be much encouraging.
Thanks

It's tough if you live in a smaller town where people may be resistant to change or changing their ideas...sorry that you have to live in a town where there is still the "mental illness" stigma. :( I used to carry that stigma myself...not that anyone imposed it on me, but it took a while to accept myself. Now I am proud, that I have gotten as far as I have with all my *issues* ha ha, and abusive background...and I have a great therapist who's helped me realize that people like us are actually strong...because most wouldn't be able to handle what we handle every day...so be proud of yourself!!! :)
