I posted in the stress board but I wanted to post here because after reading my own post I realized I may have formed a new very unhealthy obsession.

I am absolutly terrified of what is going on in the world right now.

I do not go a single hour without thinking about it, mulling it over, making escape plans in my head.
Watching airplanes and avoiding crowded areas.

I prophecize in my head what I think the terrorists would do, and then avoid it. I research boilogical weapons and nuclear fallout, I read the papers and watch CNN.

But I cannot stop because what if nuclear war happens?
I want to know. So I can run or something....
I am completely out of control about it.... and so upset about the way it is being handled by America...
I do not want to go to war. I want peace.

How do we get through this?
Why wont anyone talk about it?

There is a higher power in charge, and we have to trust that we are safe and in good hands. Thats why I was in the ARMY all those years. GOD bles AMERICA http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

Good luck to you.

Blue: Its not likely nuclear war would ever happen because the politicians would be commiting suicide themselves. I can tell you thats not too likely. Bush, Saddam, and all other world leaders are super wealthy and do not want to mess their own party up.

Hi there, fellow ocd-ers.
I truly believe that God is in control &
I pray for a peaceful death each night. The way
the world is going, I look forward to the next
age to come(new heavens, new earth ect.)
It's really the only concrete thing I have
in my life right now is my faith in God.
This earthly existence with all it's pain
& disapointments is too much to bear alone
so I cast my fears on Jesus. (Hope this
isn't too religious for this forum)

If you find that you think of the world situation to the exclusion of all else, and it is impairing your ability to function, please consider going and getting professional help.

I think that many "normal" people are in an "obsession" about current affairs. I've never had OCD, yet I feel like we are all living life "waiting for the other shoe to fall" ---the next 9/11esque event to occur. I have babies and I wonder about poisons in babyfood, all it would have to be is one worker at a plant dumping in something....things like that. But I think that is all completely "normal" given the circumstances. I can focus on other things and not think about the world situation or possible terrorist acts. If you can't do this, then please seek help. We need all the peace we can get right now, even if it's only a little bit inside our heads.

good luck

I understand what you are going through. I guess I too, have been suffering with symptons similar to this. I am getting married on Aug 16, 2003 and fear that the war in Iraq may possibly end the world. Then I in return won't live to see my own wedding. It bothers me everyday and it's crazy, I know.
The thing you have to understand (it helps me at least)is that we have no control over these things. If the world is going to end, then what will be, will be... just have faith in God and beleive in Jesus and you will live in heaven forever. *You won't have OCD in heaven either*. Something to look forward too!

God Bless
