I am going to be starting Luvox in a couple days for OCD and was just wondering if anyone else here is taking it and how it's been working for you?

Thanks a Bunch :)

I have been on Luvox for a year and a half and it has definitely helped. Some side effects are nausea if I take it on an empty stomach and some drowsiness and trouble getting up in the morning. If I go off of it or reduce the dosage too much there is a big difference, for the worse. It seems to help stabilize somewhat and reduce the effects of my OCD but it does not totally eliminate some thoughts/behaviours.I would recommend therapy/counselling as well however.

Hey there.
I was on luvox at one time. I had no problems with it as I haven't had any problems with any of the drugs I have switched too.
Usually after a few months to a year I either go up on dosage or I am switched to a new medicine.
I guess I get immuned to them easily and they sttop working.
I am currently on Lexapro. Previous medicines I have been Anafranil, Clompramine, Prozac, Paxil, Paxil CR.
I also have been taking xananx for over 2 years...I take .50 mg a day.
Good luck...

Hi; Luvox was the one medicine which really helped me with my ocd. Unfortunately my insurance doesn't cover it anymore so they switched me to Zoloft which I'm trying to get used to.I've been on all of the others and for me Luvox was the best.
Let us know how you're doing.

Thank you everyone for thr replies :)

As of right now I am taking xanax and effexor(but will be off of it soon) and starting the luvox and I also am on Seroquel.....I am just so tired all the time and could sleep day and night but I have to force myself to get up and then sometimes I can only stay awake a few hours and it's usually at night after I have slept all day,And that really sucks.
But I will do anything not to feel the way I did,so hopefully the tiredness will go away sometime.

Take Care :)

Crabbycat...This luvox is making me sleep all the time.
I am up to 200 mgs a day. I can't afford this medicine either. I get 30 pills for 50.00 and taking four pills a day,Well i just can't afford that. My doctors told me this medicine was cheap....BULL!!!!! I called my pharmacy and they said the generic was over 200.00 for as many pills as the doctor wanted me to get....So I went to the drug store and handed them 50.00 and said give me as many of the luvox as you can for this and they gave me 30 pills and it was like 54.00 all together,And now that I'm up to four pills a day I just can't afford it. I thought maybe the sleepness part would go away but it hasn't yet. But the main thing is I can't afford it and the health care facility I go to can't get them for free for me,I have exhausted every possible aspect,So I think my doctor is going to put me on leprexo.......Just don't know anymore http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/bigcry.gif nothing ever goes right.

I was on luvox kor a long time and it was wonderful. I never really noticed any side effects. Stupidly though, I stopped them for about 4 months, and now am having ocd really badly again :( So, I am starting all over again with my luvox. I'm suprised that so many of you are having trouble paying for it? Do you have insurance? If not, try going to the OCD Foundation. Under the medications listing they have places where you can try to get assistance for paying for them, including luvox. Hope it helps.

Hi. I've been using Luvox for 8 monthes. I was put on it for OCD which I have quite mildly. However, it is completely gone now. I take 150 mg a day, 50 in the morning and 100 at night. It works well.
Just a note--It did not begin working for me for nearly 2 MONTHS. Another bonus of Luvox is that it treats depression almost as well at Paxil.
For side effects, the short term ones were:
Nausea
Extreme drowsiness
dry mouth

the lasting side effects for me are:
sexual dysfuction
drowsiness, increased need for sleep
cravings to eat only sugary foods, revulsion for anything without sugar.
Difficulty concentrating/sitting still
Not long enough attention span for reading

Luvox is a friendly medication and I like it. Most people I've spoken to like it too.

I am currently on lexapro.
It is fairly new and Iam on 20 mg. instaed of the usual 10mg to start off with.
You all say you are tired most of the time.
Well does't all anti-depressants make you tired.
Personally..I love to sleep.
I alos still take.50 mg xananx a day.
I would not like to be taken away form my medicine.

For West Virginia Girl: I don't know your income or insurance situation, but some companies who make these drugs have programs where you can get your medication free. You might try calling the company that makes Luvox and see if they do this.. They base it on income I think, and your doctor sets it up and they send the medication to the doctor and he gives it to you.. Just a suggestion.. Actually a suggestion for all on the board with limited income and no prescription coverage.

HI There,
I took luvox for almost a year, then off, and like another half year. It was and is, the only med I've ever tried, but it really helped me. It took a while to really kick in I think, but I liked it. The major side effect I noticed was the sleepiness too, but that seemed to wane after about 2-3 months...but I was sleeping bigtime. I also was on a low dose...like 50 mg. a day I think. The 100 made me feel ultra-anxiety ridden...which was not the desired effect! :P I think though, I am highly sensitive to meds anyway. But yeah, I think it is one of the best out there for OCD.
HTH!

Hi Shea,

I am going through the same issue. Maybe we could chat & discuss it.

Cheers
