Help...I've been struggling with many different issues for the past 15 months. It started with depression, then came the panic attacks, hypothyroidism, and now fibromyalgia. I'm only 40 and have always been healthy so this is devistating to me. Having educated myself online with these illnesses I've learned that I have most all of the traits for ADD.

I called to make an appointment with a psychiatrist for an ADD diagnosis. Am I following the proper channels? I'm wondering if I should have been referred to him by my regular doctor?

Any information you can offer to me will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

You need to find out if this doctor does testing for ADD. He can not just hand out a diagnosis for ADD based on symptoms. You need proper testing for this. Call his office and ask if they do ADD testing there.

It's very likely that your thyroid disorder is mimicing ADHD. ADHD doesn't develop suddenly during middle age. Please, rather than seeking an ADHD diagnosis, work with an endocrinologist to get your thyroid functioning as near normal as possible. then, your ability to sustain and focus your attention should improve.
