I have a problem with OCD and I thought I'd share and see if anyone has any suggestions. I haven't been to the doctor in several years for it because I didn't think it was helping me at all. I have an obsession with the number 4 and with locks and my alarm clock. I think it all goes back to when I was in the Army. When I walk I count 1...2...3...4 and click my teeth to each count. I also check my doors 4 times every night before I go to sleep. And then I check my alarm clock four times to make sure it's set for the right time. I'm paranoid about it not going off and being late. I think that goes back to the Army when you got in BIG trouble for being late to anything. Also, when I do anything I do it four times. Kiss my wife.....4 times. Anything, it's almost ridiculous but I can't stop. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
K

Hi there,
Like you, I am obsessed with the number 4. Everything I check has to be checked 4 times and it has to go along with "tapping" in my head that's like 4 beats. The only way I can check things is if I count to the number 4 in just the right way. I've started trying to count to a different number, like 5 or 6, and by counting further than the number 4, I won't be able to check things. I don't know if this makes much sense to you, but I haven't "checked" anything in two days, six hours. This is definitely a big accomplishment for me. Don't know if this helps at all, but I do hope someone can give you more suggestions.
