I have been taking Fosamax for about two years and have seen an improvement in my bone density from 2.4 to 1.8.
I have started having problems which I feel are due to the Fosamax - bloated feeling after eating, nausea, bad taste in my mouth. With the consent of my doctor, I am going to discontinue the use of Fosamax for a while to see if these problems go away.
Has anyone discontinued or stopped the use of Fosamax for similar problems? If yes, how soon did the symptoms go away?
Regards,
Carol S.

I would be interested in knowing if anyone who has stopped Fosamax due to side effects has had those side effects get better then worsen again even though the medication has been stopped.
Thanks

I took Fosamax 10mg. daily for 3 months and quit because of heartburn. Actonel daily had the same effect. Several months later, I started Fosamax 70mg once a week and all went well for 3 months, but I am now noticing the heartburn occasionally. There is a new parathyroid hormone for osteoporosis which is supposed to be available later this year and is more effective than Fosamax or Actonel without the side effects.

Answer to rosalyn's 01-02-2001 post. Sorry
it took so long to answer. We have been on
vacation.
No I did not experience weight gain taking
Fosamax. When the side effects occurred, I
felt so bad, I could not eat and lost about
10 pounds.
After being overweight most of my adult
life, my husband had a heart attack and we
started following Dr. Dean Ornish's Program
for Reversing Heart Attack. I lost too much
weight. (I never thought that was possible.)
Now I eat extra sweets to keep my weight up.
