I have taken Evista for three years. (I stopped taking it one week ago). This summer my ankles and legs have swollen, sometimes with a pink band above my ankles. The pink band resembles broken veins. (It went away when I stopped taking Evista). I also have been overly warm (not hot flashes) and have had some muscle weakness. Sound Familiar anyone?

I've had no side effects from it. You can't compare it with Fosamax because they are completely different drugs. Fosamax is a biphosphonate. Evista is a SERM (Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulator) which acts like estrogen to slow bone loss. The most common side effect is hot flashes. I had a few in the beginning, but only occasionally for a couple of months.

I have not had any side effects from Evista (just side effects from my other medications!) but the hot flashes are very likely related to the drug. Have you felt better since you stopped taking it last week?
