Hello,

I am 39 and had a bone density scan done by my GY who wanted one because I am thin and now have chronic fatigue and am even thinner. I was told I have osteopenia and am taking a good bone mineral supplement, walking and doing weights when I can, hard to do with chronic fatigue. I went in for the test because I feel like I have gotten shorter in a matter of a few months, is this possible? I was told by the nurse that it most likely was not at this point, any comments? Thank you in advance

Hi Lisa: Are you able to get a copy of your report? Osteopenia has a fairly broad range as indicated by T-Scores whereby you are compared to healthy young adults. It is a risk for osteoporosis so you should be able to discuss the results with your doctor in depth and find out which course of treatment you need, if any.

I was told that I have borderline low bone density in my femur and that Calcium with Vit. D and exercise is the only recommendation right now. Every individual has a different set of considerations, however, and you will need to take a pro-active role yourself to make sure you're protecting yourself as much as possible so it doesn't get any worse. Also, keep a record of your height yourself so you can monitor losses. I hope this helps but sorry I cannot say about the height loss but it sounds a little premature at this point if you only have osteopenia. I'm not an authority though for sure. I am learning myself.

Hello : )

I am going to get a copy of the test Friday whem my doctor is in. I only spoke to this nurse and his recommendations were the same as yours, take a good supplement and exercise. Thank you for your kind reply and advise, I truly appreciate it.

Lisa: Just a quick question: were you advised to take a calcium supplement WITH Vitamin D? It helps with absorption if you do. Also about 20 min. of sunshine each day will give you adequate Vit.D too. It's important. Hope all goes well and best regards.

Hello : )

I got a supplement that has calcium citrate, magensium, zinc, manganese, potassium, vitamins D, K and B1 and yucca juice. These things are horse pills and to get what you need you have to take six of them a day. I also wanted to let people know I was in fitness for years and have studied wellness, in my condition with the impaired digestion from what is known as candida or leaky gut, I do not produce enough hydrochloric acid and that is required for protein and mineral absorption. I have also added that into my diet and hope it will help. Thank you again for your reply, I am worried to say the least, a lot has happened to my body in the last few months.

Lisa

p.s. If anyone wants information on how to test for a deficiency of hydrochloric acid there is a safe way to do it, e mail me at peace29t@aol.com and I will send you the instructions : )
