The devastation I felt upon learning I was severely Osteo at 51 years old threw me for a loop. The Doc gave me that diagnosis after a routine heel scan. They are going to Biggie-size it to the body scan next Friday. Without the soda and fries.
Well, after my much publicized pity-party (which nobody attended) I picked myself up, brushed myself off, and got back in the game. What game? I plan to put an effective battle strategy into place as soon as I can. I've talked with a Nutritionist and ordered some Coral Calcium with added nutrients. The dark, confusing world of calcium in all it's varieties, blends and compounds is just too difficult to comprehend what with all it's facts, figures, do's and don'ts. And I don't have a Ph.D in Calcium to help me decipher it all. So I went with the Coral stuff. I hope I've decided right!???
Your experiences, support, validation, pointers, etc. would help me tremendously towards my getting my rubber bones to quit being so obstinate!

AFTER I WROTE YOU I LOOKED UP CORAL CALCIUM ON THE NET..THE ONLY SITES I FOUND APPEARED TO BE ALL ADVERTISEMENTS FOR COMPANIES SELLING THE PRODUCT..IN MOST IT CLAIMED TO BE THE CURE FOR EVERYTHING FROM ALZHEIMERS TO GALLBLADDER AND BEYOND..BUT THERE WAS A FOOT NOTE THAT READ "STATEMENT HAS NOT BEEN EVALUATED BY THE FDA" AND "NOT INTENDED TO TREAT OR CURE ANY DISEASES" WHATS UP WITH THAT?? I WOULD BE LEARY OF THE PRODUCT..IF ITS NOT FDA REGULATED ..WHATS TO SAY THAT EACH PILL,TABLET OR WHATEVER CONTAINS THE INGREDIENTS ITS SUPPOSED TO..OR IF THE INGREDIENTS ARE IN THE CORRECT AMOUNTS..GOOD LUCK

I've never heard of it either and my doc has never mentioned. I'm 53 and was diagnosed at 50 so I know your delima. The first year I did it my way, herbs, high calcium smoothies and at the end of it I lost another 20% bone mass which put me over to the severe side, where there was osteopenia in the hips it turned to osteoporosis so now it is back neck and hips. i'm not trying to fix myself anynore. I hate to take pills but now I have no choice. Actenol seems to be tolerated so far. I excersise 30 to 40 minutes 6 days a week on the treadmil and eat as healthy as possible, I also take calcium supplement chews Nature Made Cal burst twice a day. So I will see at the end of the year if this wil help.

I'm 25, and I work at an Osteoporosis Center, just had a scan for the heck of it, and I have Osteopenia. Does anyone here know someone as young as me who has it? Never took any of those medications that cause it except I did take a birth control injection for 5 years. Help!

In researching low bone density I've learned that many young adult women (your age group) have it. Sometimes severe athletic training causes it like ballet dancing gymnastics, excessive running, etc. There may be other reasons but it's hard to say.
The important thing is to prevent progression by educating yourself and eliminating the risk factors that you CAN CHANGE - some you cannot do anything about. You cannot change the size of your frame if you have small bones nor your ethnic background if you're light skinned and fair haired. You can change your diet and exercise regimine and add Calcium plus Vit. D supplements. Since you work in the business, I'm sure you know all this already but there was a lot I didn't know and am now paying the price. What has your healthcare provider recommended in your case?
I am also working closely with my doctor to make sure I'm not doing something wrong and am well informed on what I can do for low bone mass. Best Wishes to you.

Well...at this point I have no insurance. The Dr. wants to do several lab tests to see if it's my estrogen level, if I'm secreting Calcium through my kidneys, if it's my thyroid...First thing is I HAVE TO GET INSURANCE.
