Hi I am new here.Someone please reply.

Has anyone experienced such difficulty swallowing chest pain and shoulder pain so bad they were hospitialized and thougt to have had heart attack from using actonel.I was recently diagnosed with osteporosis and took it once on sunday by Tuesday I was sick and by Friday hospitalized with severe chest pain,could not swallow shoulder pains nausea.Is there an alternative to taking such drugs to reverse bone lost.spirittalk

Spirittalk,

If you haven't yet perused other threads on this Osteo. board I would highly recommend that you do so. You will see that many people taking these drugs have experienced similar symtoms. I think a few stated they were hospitalized as well and attributed it to the drugs. Your doc did rule out any heart problems. Right?

I also experienced severe nausea and occassional vomiting, as well as other symptoms, but not until I was a few months into the drug. I felt as though I was being poisoned. All my symptoms disappeared after discontinuing fosamax (I had already tried the alternative potions with similar results).

Many of us here are going the alternative route - good quality absorbable calcium, magnesium, vit. K and D, etc. Again, doing some research here, and on google as well, should turn up information that will help you to make an informed decision.

All the best and don't despair! There are other paths available to us.
