Has anyone ever heard of people losing their hair after being on Fosamax or Actonel for a period of time? I have been on Actonel for 3 months and I seem to be losing my hair. Not a lot of hair loss, but certainly enough to concern me. Thanks.

Bev,
My mom (78) has been on Fosamax for over a year (maybe two...I need to ask) and has been complaining a LOT lately about losing her hair.
Have you learned anything more on this?

I haven't heard from anyone else re my hair loss question, but thank you for responding. Loss of hair comes with aging also, and I am 64 so maybe that's it, but I still have major questions about this problem.

I haven't noticed any hair loss yet and I have been on Fosamax for 4 months. I do wonder about the long term use of this drug however.

I've been on it for four months and haven't noticed any more than the usual (male, 64 years) loss.

I'm 39, diagnosed with osteoporosis and have been on Actonel since December 2002. I have noticed a lot of hair loss over the past several months. Enough to concern me to do an online research and find your response here.

why dont you stop the fosamax and see if the hairloss stops..if it does you should call merck the drug co that makes it and report it to them..if the hair loss continues it can be that it is caused by a drop in estrogen production which shrinks the hair follicles and it falls out...
