Hello all,
I'm new to the board and I'm 45 years old. I've suffered with fibroid tumors for the past 10 years, and I finally ended up having a hysterectomy this past January. Prior to the hysterectomy, I had
Lupron for 3 months prior to the surgery. I had intended to have just the fibroids removed, but it turned into a hysterectomy. I have taken lupron several times in my life and I'm told that it can
make bones weak. My doctor ordered a bone scan prior to this last session of lupron and at the time (Sept 2002), my spine t-score was -0.3 (94% of bone mass), and my hip was -1.38 (79% of bone mass). The hip one concerns me and even tho I've recovered good
since my hysterectomy, I haven't gotten a new bone scan to see how much worst it's gotten. I kept my ovaries so I still have estrogen and I've been taking every calcium supplement I can get my hands on.
I've also started an exercise routine that includes walking and low-impact aerobics. I have lots more energy now since I don't lose blood anymore http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/redface.gif) I could not take the fosamax or actenel. Gave me
horrible headaches. I recently started HGH spray under the tongue and I've heard that ISOFLAVONES is a good option. I haven't tried the ISOFLAVONES yet tho. Are there any other things on the market
that may help so that I won't have to resort to the fosamax??

Thanks in advance !!

Don't want to belabor the point, but did you try Actonel after Fosamax, because the drugs are not the same? Regardless of some people's opinons.

I believe she already stated that she tried the actonol.

Cathy,

Many of us, like you, have chosen the alternative route. You will need a good source of absorbable calcium (my brand, a liquid, already has the isoflavinoids in it). Also: Magnesium (equal to or slightly more than calcium), vitamin D, Vitamin K and Progesterone Cream (natural not synthetic Progesterone). Of course, bone bearing exercise is vitally important. Taking too much calcium is not good either as it can leach magnesium. A good plan is to divide your calcium into 2 doses AM and PM for maximum absorbability. In addition, I also take Omega Flax oil

I'm sure others will chime in with more information as well. But since you still produce estrogen, and your Dexa scan numbers are "relatively" low, you seem to be in pretty good shape start a program that will curtail further bone loss.

All the best and let us hear what you discover in your research. btw: what is HGH spray?

Hello again,
And thank you for the information. It's always nice to share opinions and research. You asked about the HGH spray. HGH is Human Growth Hormone. It is a natural hormone that our body produces when we're young, but like all other hormones, it starts to fall off after age 30 or so. Supplementing with this has been known to enhance bone mass and growth. I've attached a link here if you'd like to read more info about the HGH and osteoporosis prevention. Thanks again and I'll keep everyone posted on my progress !

Hello again Cathy,

I visited the site. Thanks! How long have you been taking the HGH and have you noticed a difference . . . in anything? If so, what? Also, where exactly would you purchase this? It didn't elaborate in the article.

Thanks again,

Peregrine

Hi Peregrine,
As a matter of fact, I HAVE noticed a difference in how my hips feel. First of all, a little about me. I am very tall and thin. I'm 5'11 and weigh about 138 lbs, so pretty thin. My hips are very narrow and I guess I'm not surprised that the test showed some bone loss there. I also used to have a lot of pain in my hips every monrning upon awakening. This was happening a lot last year right before I had that bone scan test done. At that time right after the test, I started taking a calcium supplement that has MSM, Glucosamine and Condrotin in it. I started taking the new calcium supplement at the same time I started the HGH Spray. It's been about 9 months and the pain in my hips is totally gone. It feels great now. I don't feel pain upon awakening or anytime thruout the day. So I'm not sure which of those supplements helped, but something did !! I use the spray HGH and I spray 2 squirts under my tongue 3 times per day. I do one month on and 1 week off.
I also recently started a walking and exercise regimin, so hopefully this has all made a difference. I guess I have to wait another year to get tested again because I've heard that insurance will only pay for the test every 2 years unless a person has full-blown osteo.

Write back again anytime and keep me updated on your progress too !

Cathy,

Sounds as if we have a very similar body structure. I was told that thin women tend to have thin bones. But glad to hear that you are doing so well.

Could you post where one might purchase the HGH. I saw some in the HFS but it was $150 for a tiny bottle. Any suggestions?

Peregrine,
You can get the HGH spray at any health food store in your area. You may be able to order it off the internet, but I'd be kinda leery of that because I don't know of any reputable places on the net. It's all types of people out there trying to make a buck with phoney products and stuff. I think your safest bet would be to go into your local health food store. If they don't have it, they may be able to order it for you. The brand I use (and like) is Liddell. It also improves several other factors in your body, i.e., memory, sex drive, and energy levels. I think you'll be pleased with it. Feel free to write me personally off-line if you'd like at privlady39@aol.com

Hi All, I just signed up to get any and all feedback on osteopenia and what treatments others are using to prevent further loss.
I was very shocked to be diagnosed this week. I have none of the characteristics I found listed except that I am Caucasian. I did ,however, have a total hysterectomy, including ovaries, 21 years ago at age 32.I have been on estrogen replacement the entire 21 years, but it appears it wasn't enough.
My primary care physician prescribed Fosomax, but I need more info before starting. The only medication I've ever taken long term was the estrogen. and am leary of all medication.
This is also an alert to all who had ovaries removed early to consult their doctor about a bone density scan.I never dreamed as an overweight, non smoker and non drinker, and someone that doesn't eat anything with caffeine in it, that I would be facing this so young.
Thanks for any info, Diane
