I have been on fosamax for 8 months and am experiencing extreme muscle and joint pain. The doctor can find no cause - I feel it is the fosamax, am wondering if anyone else has had this problem.

Joint and muscle pain is just one of the many possible side effects of Fosamax listed by the manufacturer. If it is extreme though, I would definitely discuss this with the doc. I hope it gets better for you.

My mother is on fosamax, and for the past month or so has been commenting about how so many times her upper arm/shoulder area aches. She says it isn't bursitis because she had that in her other shoulder before and is familiar with how that feels.
hmmmmm. What's a person to do? Stop taking meds that will help your bones then?
Such a double-edged sword with so many meds. Take something to fix one problem and end up with others from side effects. ARRGGGHHH
My doc wanted to start me on Actonel and some other med that I can't remember the name of. One is once a week, the other is daily. But it was not fosamax. I chose not to fill the scripts. I'm going to try just natural ways, extra calcium, D, K, etc......
My body does not like meds. Heck, even the round-the-clock dosing of ibuprofen I have to take sometimes for spinal and muscle issues affects me in less than enjoyable ways!
You should definitely bring this up with your doc. Perhaps you can try a different route.

The pain you described that your mother has is exactly what I have experienced. I ignored it for a long time, it progressed to the point of affecting all aspects of my life. I have been to the doctor, had blood tests, x-rays, found nothing wrong. I decided it might be the fosamax. I have been off it for a little over a week and it is begining to improve. Tell your mother to stop taking the stuff. The pain got unbearable. I am also going to just try the extra calcium and the rest.

I have been on the weekly Fosamax(35mg) for 7 months. Late April, early May I started experiencing arthristis like symptons. I have joints that actually swell up, especially in the hands and every other week it is one of my knees. I can't stand on a tile floor very long without my feet swelling. Along with fosamax I was on a daily dose of Effexor(25mg) for hot flashes. Doc says quit the effexor, says stay on the Fosamax and is having some blood tests ran. Has anyone else experienced the joint stiffness and swelling and sometimes the inability to lift your arms? I have had 2 rings cut off after 2months of this swelling. Thank you

About January I began having joint pain, first elbow, then wrist, swelling of all my fingers over night with severe stiffness. So I sought medical treatment, tests have come back negative. In the meantime the joint pain has worsened to include my knee and shoulder. I have been on Effexor for almost a year, and am wondering if there have been any studies linking the use of Effexor with joint inflammation and muscle pain? I the past eight months I've gone from being a vital get it all done woman, to how am I going to manage to crawl through the day. I'd be very interested to hear if anyone else using Effexor has had similar symptoms, and if going off the drug made the symptoms go away.
