My mother has been on Fosamax for over a year. A few months after she began taking it, her ability to speak became severely limited. She can't seem to say the words she is thinking. Often she will blurt out an incorrect tense of the verb she wants to use for example. Her doctor has tested her for alzheimers and it isn't that. He claims it is stress. Two weeks ago, she took a trip and left her Fosamax home. She started to get better. She hasn't taken anymore of it and is steadily improving. She heard of a man that experienced the same problem. I haven't found a similar problem noted anywhere on the web or in their literature. Has anyone else seen this? I'd appreciate replies as this is very scary, to the point where she has been almost suicidal and very depressed.

Although my symptoms were horrendous, I did not have the particular ones you describe; however, many people here have reported symptoms that are not listed on the insert's side effects, so I wouldn't be at all surprised if your mother's problem was also related to the drug. All of my symptoms also went away within 2 days of stopping the meds.
